We just closed on a Pono Kai week. We do not know anything about Bluegreen. Looks like there is a point/vacation club option. Assume there are additional fees involved. We plan to use the weeks. Also I saw something about online bonus time. We have joined the yahoo group. Is there somewhere that we can learn all of the angles to maximize our ownership options?

Jim and Cindy,
Congratulations on buying Pono Kai. It is one of the most popular Bluegreen resorts in that almost every week is completely booked as soon as it becomes available.
There are two places you can go to learn how to maximize your ownership. Right here is one of them. That's why we created this forum.
The other is the Bluegreen Yahoo group which you've already joined. So, you are well on your way.
You probably bought a floating week at Pono Kai. Is that correct? Hopefully, it's a 52 week floater. If so, then you do not have access to Bonus time or the ability to use points to book other resorts in the Bluegreen family. To do that, you need to buy some points. I will be creating another thread to show options for getting into BVC.
Since your resort is so popular, you can still gain access to Bluegreen by arranging for a direct trade with another Bluegreen owner. I just helped another timeshare owner at Pono Kai do just that. If you are interested in that option, send me a private message or email and I'll show you how easy it is to do.

Great resort to use. We stayed here once and found Paradise. I can still recall my room # 23c from 5 years ago. I would never trade this as I would just want to use it myself.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Originally posted by Jim and CindyThank you for your responses. It is a 52 week float. We are actually thinking about banking EOY so that we can do 2 weeks back to back EOY. Hope that is possible. Looking forward to learning more about Bluegreen. Interesting properties.
Last year, Bluegreen only had about 150 weeks at Pono Kai. This year they have about 200. They are clearly trying to increase Vacation Club inventory.
I find Bluegreen to be outstanding at resort management. Since Bluegreen took over management, I am wondering if anyone notices a difference.

Aloha Jim and Cindy
And welcome to the Pono Kai.
1st, Bluegreen does manage our resort, but we have several things that are carry over's from the original developers programs.
The Freedom Plus program allows you to move your current years week into next year for free from Jan till April ( not sure of exact dates) or for a $35 fee until June.
That will allow you to make your two week trip eoy.
You can also exchange for free to any other RCIM resort. These two programs are great, but like you we never exchange our PK weeks.
The resort has benefited from the change to BG as our management company.
With the increased purchasing power, the lower management fees, and some great input from BG, we are in the best financial position we have been in for 15 years.
There were no increases in our dues for 2004,2005, or 2006 and yet we are doing complete refurbishment on about 40 units per year.
Spending over 250K each year on upgrades, while other Hawaiian resorts had 15-30% increases in 2006 alone
If you have any additional questions about the PK, just e me. Greg

Alli Kai, Thank you very much for the great info. The units look very nice from photos we have seen. We have enjoyed reading your posts on TUG regarding the resort. Don't know if you followed our thread on TUG about closing problems. It took so long to close we have already carried over our 2006 week. Have you reserved 2 adjoining weeks and was it difficult? Will we have problems calling one year in advance and getting 2 back to back weeks? We are very excited about our purchase.

none at all
I call at 364 days in advance and spec the suite we want. Last year they mumbled that they couldn't promise that suite, but we received it anyway.
Do you have a list of suites? Is yours a 1 or 2 bedroom? Email me for the pdf's , the bbs can't handle the file. Greg

No, the software here would take the files for
The other types, you will need to email me for them. We prefer the 101-109 types on the ends of the buildings A-D. And since building D was just refurbished
Originally posted by Jim and CindyWe own a 2 BR. Thank you for attaching the floor plan. Are the units listed the 2 BR units? What units do you prefer and why?
