  • So I was looking at paying fees with points...

As a silver member (I'm not there yet, but thinking of someday...) as I understand it, you can trade 10,000 points for $200 worth of fees. That doesn't seem like a very good exchange rate. Wouldn't it be better to rent those points and use the money to pay the fees? What kind of numbers are we looking at here? I realize renting isn't a sure thing, but if you had a friend, and even it you gave them a deal.... it just seems like a better deal to me. Am I missing something?

You got it right. I see the "points for fees" as the perfect circle for developers. You pay to buy the ownership. You pay the fees for the points year 1. You use the points to pay fees for year 2. You never have to deal with the messy vacation stuff as you have completed the ring by using up your points to pay for fees. Ridiculous. Don't do it.

It used to be a good value. They just changed the rate from $500 for 10000 points to $200 for 10000 points. You are better off renting your points.

Boca, is there an easy way to rent points? We're sitting on an absurd number of weeks banks at RCI and SFX as is, but I hate to see my points go to waste, so I keep reserving/depositing weeks. But if there was a painless way to rent points, I'd be interested in that for my 2009 points.
