  • Club 36 in Las Vegas

Here is a post from another thread:
    - - - - - - -
A heads up about the new Bluegreen resort in Vegas. I've said this before but I believe it is worth saying again. They built it directly across Trop from McCarron Int, and not exactly walking distance to the strip or even MGM. Sidewalks are non existant and very dark at night.

Worst part is that it is directly under a seldom used, but used flight path and the noise must be excrutiating when you've got a 737 literally yards over your head.

    Guess the land was cheap.

    - - - - - - - -

    Here is my post.

I was just at Club 36 - August 15-18 for a "shakedown" stay prior to opening. Not everything was open. They will have commercial businesses on the ground floor. Bonefish Grill, an ABC store (general store), a liquor store with some gaming, and additional stores.

I thought the rooms were very nice and adequate. I had both the deluxe 1BR and standard 1BR for a "2BR" unit (adjoined).

The standard is much like a suite hotel room - bedroom can be closed off, with a kitchen and 'den' area and a nice sized regular bathroom.

The deluxe was larger with 2 'sides'. One side had the entranceway, kitchen/dining, and 'den'. The other side had a nice, large bathroom with a tub AND a nice, large glass wall tile shower, and the bedroom.

Both rooms had flat screen LCD TVs in both the den and BR rooms.

The above post is correct - it is right across Tropicana Ave. from the airport and there is a flight path that goes right by/over the place. I did hear some planes/jets sometimes but was never bothered by them - not at all. I guess the worst was when jets were taking off at the airport, but still not so bothersome. Overall the entire place was quiet.

Club 36 is about 2.5 blocks from the strip. It was easy walking distance for me because I like to walk (even with it being HOT HOT HOT). There is sidewalk all the way to the strip. A good portion of the distance you have ONLY the width of the sidewalk as there is a brick wall right at the sidewalk but it is still manageable. There were streetlights all the way.

There is a road thru the property and you could walk out the back side of the property and walk up to the strip via another road and avoid the Tropicana Ave. traffic if you'd like to. I never had a problem with the traffic on Tropicana even with it being heavy.

There is an indoor pool and indoor whirlpool, with an outdoor sundeck. They will have misters on the sundeck. The indoor pool and whirlpool were great. There is a bar in the same room with the pool/whirlpool.

They have 3 'high roller' suites - 3BR / 3BA with a home theater room that has a pool table in it also. They said all resorts will be getting 'executive' suites that are similar.

Overall I thought the resort was excellent. I'm ready to go back already.

BG is also instituting a rapid check-in system. I don't remember the specifics but I'm sure they'll get the info on the website at some point.

I looked at that and wondered about that too.

The company that does my stock program sometimes has seminars in Vegas. I think the Club 36 would be about 2 miles from the hotel where the event was last held. Maybe next time I will go to the event if I can get into Club 36 and save a few hundred dollars a night at the event hotel.

Otherwise, I can't see going to Vegas. It just isn't me.

Just a couple quick thoughts on Club 36 after staying there a couple days a few weeks ago.

              Positives:

              1. The rooms were elegantly decorated and comfortable. It was particularly nice to have three showers in the combined two bedrooms. There were 4 flat panel tv's in the two bedrooms as well.

              2. Depending on what rooms you were in, the view of the strip was beautiful.

              3. Very nice indoor pool & hot tub with a bar next to the pool.

              4. Spacious outdoor deck with ample seating adjacent to the pool area.

              Areas for improvement:

              1. Depending on where your room was located, the noise from the flights was loud. One of the members of my party was awakened at 6 am from an airplane. I was facing the strip but I heard it too but I thought I was dreaming

              2. I know this place just recently opened so I am willing to give them a pass for this first visit, but the staff at the front desk really had no idea what they were doing. It took almost 20 minutes to check in and two people had to help me.
I had prepaid my bonus time online and they tried to charge me for an additional night upon check out.

              3. The distance from the strip. It is certainly within walking distance, but definitely a long walk. None of the stores/restaurants were open yet but still under construction. I saw signs for a Subway and an Einstein's bagels, so I am sure they will open soon along with a higher end restaurant they had mentioned.

Overall, a very good experience. I plan on going back next May.
One interesting side note. If you arrive by airplane, depending on the direction you are heading, you can read the Bluegreen sign from the airplane. I happened to look out the window as we were taxiing down the runway and I could see the Bluegreen sign.

The resort has seven floors. The rooms in the Captain Wing face the strip. Units 40-57.

The units (15-38) in the Aviator Wing face the airport.

The following stores will be on the first floor of the resort. I don't know when they will be completed:

                  1. Grind Burger
                  2. Einstein Bros Bagels
                  3. ABC Stores
                  4. Subway
                  5. Due Pizzeria
                  6. Super Liquor
                  7. Bonefish Grill

                    David,

Thanks for the info. I would want a 2 bedroom in the "Captain Wing" probably on the 6th or 7th floor. (7th might be where the real fancy suites are.) Any recommendations on which specific units I should request?

                    Thanks, Charles

                      Charles,

I can only speak for the 2 BR lock off unit where we stayed, but I would imagine any unit in the "Captain Wing" would be fantastic. I would recommend the upper floors. There is a beautiful view of the strip from each bedroom and and also from the Living Room window. Even though the strip is a mile away, it is still quite beautiful and appears closer than the actual distance.

As for the "Fancy Rooms", you are correct the 2 Presidential Suites are located on the seventh floor and they are incredible. My wife and I are going to Vegas in May and we managed to get one of the Suites for a weekend stay.

When I was there in November, they were using one of the suites for tours, so only one was available to rent. They told me it was booked several months in advance. Someone must have a bunch of points to burn!

                      Good Luck!

I was there in October. Same as you, two bedroom lockoff unit on 7th floor. I really liked this resort. I am also planning a return trip in '09 and planning on staying in one of the Presidential suites. When we toured the "model" I was told that when the resort if finished they will have a total of 11 such suites. They are very nice.

Also, I found the staff at this resort to be very accommodating and courteous. My planed arrived in late morning and they were kind enough to allow me to check in early, and check out an hour late on my departure date. I have stayed at the following resorts.

Lodge Alley Inn (where I joined Bluegreen)
The Fountains (where I was convinced to 'upgrade')
                        Solara Surfside
                        Seaglass Towers
                        Shorecrest Vacation Villas
                        Club 36

I'm going to rate the Vegas resort as my favorite of all of these. Once it is completed, this is going to be a great place to vacation! I wasn't bothered by the air traffic at all. In fact I hardly noticed it after the first day.

We just returned from Club 36.

Sales staff is PUSHY. High roller suites (presidential suites) are beautiful and point pricey. Bonus time for platinum at $79 per night would be wonderful if you could get in. Interesting that the number of chairs at the dining table exceeded the maximum occupancy!

Sleeping capacity in the two bedroom lockoff exceeds the maximum occupancy as well! Same for the sleeping capacity vs max occupancy for the 1 bedroom standard.

We felt the 1 bedroom deluxe side bathroom area could have been reduced and the living area enlarged a bit or kitchen area enlarged a bit....dining area very small....no counter space and no regular oven; just the above the stove top microwave/convection/conventional oven. I'm glad we had both sides of the lock off for making Christmas dinner so I could use both ovens!

Parking lot is not well lit and neither is the uturn area on tropicana...street lights are there but are OUT. I almost went over the curb not realizing in the snowy weather that I was already in the lane to turn. McCarren Village is going to go in right next door and will contain many shops. It will be a very well built area eventually.

They have no activities planned yet but I'm sure they will; they are still gearing up. We finally found a list of games available for check out but they weren't even sure how to check them out so that obviously was something new and the Yahtzee game we checked out had never been used before. So, there are great things about going to a brand new resort but there are also bad things about it!

Lighting of the laundry facilities, especially in the deluxe side is awful.......and it's a stackable unit with the washer on the bottom and you have to practically get on your hands and knees to read it and figure it out. I didn't realize there was a place until my hubby looked at it to put the soap in to a dispense so it went in the drum on the first load! The BG book in the living area had it penciled in on how to use the dryer. I never really did figure it out, my husband did. He had to call maintenance in to figure out how to use the DVD player.

The bathroom exhaust fan in the standard unit didn't work at all......not supposed to according to the maintenance man..........and the one in the deluxe side is in the shower room; not in the toilet room. That seemed weird to me. I always thought the exhaust fan was more to eliminate odor rather than moisture??????????? So, I thought there were some architecture problems with it.

Very elegantly and modernly decorated. Trash chute on each floor but it was out of order so they had a trash can in front of it. But the last day we were there, they had the door locked so you couldn't even get to that, so we just left our trash in our room. That morning the elevators also didn't work. WE were on the 5th floor. So we went down the stairs...me hobbling; I had come down with GOUT in my left ankle...not diagnosed until we got home but it was oh so painful.......(still is but after cortisone injection Christmas Eve it is now 80% better)......when we got downstairs, I gave them a piece of my mind.

First there was no sign on the elevator to tell us it was out of order so we waited forever before using the stairs. THEN I found out that there is a second set of elevators and we had no idea about that.

Einstein's Bagels opened while we were there; Subway had just opened and the pizza joint was already open. ABC store will go in soon. others mentioned on this post, I did not know about yet. someone mentioned going out the backway from the resort..........I don't think I would go that way, especially walking; and wasn't aware you could go out that way actually anyway, but if you can, I wouldn't; it looks like awfully rough territory over that way.

Airport noise was pretty excessive when you were outside when a jet was taking off or landing on that strip. Inside, we could hear it but it was not excessive. I'm not sure that would be the case in all units or not. I'm guessing that on the 7th floor it might be kind of noisy but I am also guessing that the presidential suites might have more sound proofing in them. But there are other units beyond the presidential suites on the 7th floor. Since we were platinum members, they gave us a city view unit.

They do not post premier members names for recognition becuase of safety reasons. Since it is one of the premier benefits, though, they recognize you with your level when greeting you when you check-in. Also at our owner update, they didn't have our printed packet of all of our ownership information and she asked us what we have and I said well, you already know, where's our packet of information you always have printed out? And she said, "Oh we don't have that." We can't print that anymore unless you tell us it's okay. Privacy act rules. So we agreed to let them print it.

She told us they were buying up several companies on the west coast that would bring in over 30 resorts to the BG Vacation Club. This would happen in the next 60-90 days. This was the reason to get us to buy because "you just know this will make the price per point go up even more than it is right now."

After it was printed, she said, oh so you have 63,000 points.............and I said, no I have more than that....I have two resale packages too.........and you will want to try to get me to buy more points to upgrade those into qualified points since those aren't qualified points. Oh no, she said, We can't touch those. I told her that was crazy; that was her foot in the door and that was how she could try to sell me points. I was thinking to myself; this is crazy. I am doing HER job for HER. Finally, the manager came over and straightened things out but then she said they couldn't find my other points; when did I buy them? Finally, they both left and I grabbed the paper work and I found the points for them so when they came back, I showed it to them but then they still had to look up the equity on it.

By the way, in the amount of time it took for them to go and print our paperwork and blacken out some of the info on it (previous owners names and such) and get it and bring it back, there is NO WAY they printed out that much paper.............they already had it printed; they went and had a couple sips of coffee; went potty and then came back with it.

What idiots. We didn't buy of course..........we did tell them we had to think about it and I knew that wasn't there way of doing things but if we had to make a decision then, the answer was indeed NO........and if they gave us until Friday, we might do it; probably not, but we might do it.............better chance then, then right at that moment.

We were there mainly to see our daughter who lives in Vegas.............and it was great to spend time with her!

                            Gout Pain Free

Thank you all for your suggestions, concerns, thoughts and prayers for my gout pain. (Moderators: I didn't really know where to put this but since this is where I brought it up and so many were so nice to me to offer their suggestions, etc. I wanted to give the GOOD report!!!! Please move it where it should be, if needed. Thank you! You do a marvelous job!) [It speaks of my faith too and if that is a no - no, I do apologize for that as well.]

My gout pain is nearly gone. Not sure what it was or a combination of things and it isn’t as good as “NEW” but this I could definitely live with except the med he put me on yesterday, totally knocks me out and is really rough on the stomach so I know I don’t want to be on it very long as it is only 39 days away from surgery I have scheduled. (Reading my original post about my gout, I said it was 80% better after the Christmas Eve cortisone injection--that 80% was short lived.)

Yesterday these new attempts at getting the pain to go away were tried:

                            · Kinesio taping at Physical Therapy

                            · Taking alfalfa tabs (actually started taking those New Years Day)

                            · Switching to indocin anti-inflammatory Rx

                            · Getting my butt out of bed and doing some other stuff (also started New Years Day)

                            · Keeping it elevated and heat on it more consistently than I had been.

                            · The prednisone is finally kicking in (started 12/29/2008)

                            · The Tylenol #3 I took last night before going to bed is just masking the pain….I hope that’s not the case!!!!!!!

Maybe the good Lord is just preparing me for the pain and agony of my surgery to come! I don't think so!

PLUS, I also asked two prayer chains to pray for it yesterday and I don’t want to minimize that help as well. Praise the Lord! Whether it is by His grace alone that it miraculously is nearly 100% gone or that He made one of the above work….whatever, I am so grateful to the Lord and to you for your prayers.

I had asked for prayer for surgery to be scheduled prior to the end of the year because our out of pocket insurance maximum for me had already been met for 2008 and would zero out on 1/1/2009. Feeling the whole thing to be God led, I accepted it (of course, I had no other choice), knowing it was really for the best for me to get all of my end of year stuff at work completed first. Praise the Lord we have jobs to pay the co-pays/deductible and insurance to pay the rest. But that was all just rationalization on my part to accept it.

Then this gout attack happened while we were in Las Vegas visiting our daughter; it started on 12/17/2008. After getting back home, we started to process the mail and there was info about the 2009 insurance where DH works. Out of pocket maximum would be increased by $1,000 (to $2,000 on 1/1/2009)…………….I was sick over that……………..if I had been scheduled in 2008, this extra $1,000 would not have affected me either.

Yesterday, I finally realized how difficult it would have been to recover from surgery, and have had this horrible pain too. It may have very well been that they would have cancelled surgery anyway until the gout pain got under control. That would have been so devastating.

                            Susan

                              Susan,
I rejoice with you at the way the Lord is helping you. He was sure with me when I had my heart surgery a few weeks ago. I am so much better and ready to do the "Bluegreen Thing" and travel some in '09.

                              God Bless You................
                              Sylvia
