  • Best way/place to rent out points?

    Hello Everyone,

I need some help figuring out what to do with my points. I am a 9000 pts EOY owner started end of October 2005, so I am about to reach the point where half my points will become "Saved" and not usuable in high-red or whatever. To be honest I wish I could just get rid of my membership, sell or even give it away, but since I still owe on the mortgage, I can't. This year has been tough financially, add to the fact plane tickets are $$$ and that I find none of the resorts attractive anymore (I did go to Aruba my first vacation, I love the area, but the resort was terrible). So the only option I have left is to rent off my points right?

So what is the best way to put my points up for rent? I went to the Bluegreen FAQ but all the "recommended" sites seem shady. Is there anything else I can do with my points to earn some money?

It has become harder and harder to use my points. I even tried to use Pointsmart and book a hotel, but they wanted 9600 points for a 2 night stay.

I am no expert but you are always welcomed to post them here:

    TS4MS Classifieds - Timeshare Forums

If you later list them elsewhere, just edit your listing or close it.

Thanks for the link. I did see that section, but I am not sure how to post points. Any help would be appreciated. Do I book the vacation for person interested, and then tell Bluegreen the name of the person? Also, what would be a fair price to ask for? Is it something around $0.10 per point?

        I would not go above 10 cents/point.

There are a couple ways you can go about this - with the holidays coming, you could book stays and advertise them or try to find people that want to go somewhere and book what they want.

The marketing of specific reservations is easier in many ways as there are numerous online outlets for doing this.

You could also ask around at work, in whatever clubs or social circles you run in, friends and family, to see if anyone is wanting an affordable vacation and call up Reservations to inquire as to specific availability. In my opinion, not as much success this way if you have not rented before.

        Good luck!

          Rentals

I've been successful for renting them at .10 per point at Redweek. I live close to Big Cedar so I've mainy booked and rented things out there because I figure if I can't rent a certain week--I'll just go myself. I like Redweek and I've also rented stuff on there for myself.

            Renting

How much does redweek.com charge for "membership"? For listing? For commission if you do rent?

              No commission.

I think an ad is $20 but goes 6 months. Membership ... I think $10?

                What not to do.

Do not give it to a company that charges you an upfront fee (they all do). I got suckered in to that one.

One thing I have learnt with BG is you must borrow your points from the next year. That will give you 2 years to use those points. Easy to do, just pre-pay maintenance fees in advance. Expired points are not very useful.

If your points are about to expire, deposit them with RCI.

I already posted this but I joined Redweek back in March and have rented 3 different things on there since then. I have heard, and used .10 per point--making 15,000 worth $1500. But this is ONLY a guideline because I know weeks like spring break, Christmas etc obviously bring much higher.

I also banked a week on Redweek because you can keep it banked for 3 years I think it is. I like their trade system--you can bank multiple weeks and "save up" for something way better. So, say I have 3 not so great weeks worth 1,000 each. I can bank them in years 1,2,3 and then go to someplace in high season with my 3,000 points.

Also, Redweek was pretty inexpensive to join and cheap to advertise stuff too. I think it's $19.99 for a classified ad. There is no commission. NO WAY am I paying big money upfront--crazy!
