  • Bluegreen as Universal Trader

With Bluegreen, you can use ANY exchange company to exchange for a week you want. This is important since many people have had trouble with RCI. And, given it's relatively low maintenance fees, I consider it one of the really great Universal traders.

You can use it with RCI, but you can also use it with RCI Points if you have such an ownership. Depending on how many points you own, you can get RCI Points for between $.0040 - $.0078 per RCI Point. At that rate, it is cost effective to use RCI Points for airfares.

You can exchange with Interval International. I prefer II over RCI. Many Bluegreen resorts qualify for an Accommodation Certificate that allows them to book an extra week for a cheap rate. For instance, I am at Disney's Old Key West resort in an awesome 2 bedroom unit this week on an AC that I got for depositing a white week into II. That AC cost me $299.

With Bluegreen, you can exchange through SFX. SFX is known as a company that enables owners high quality, like for like exchanges. I have not explored it much using Bluegreen, but I just used SFX to get a nice 2 bedroom Oceanfront unit at Solara Surfside off their sell off list. So, I know they take that resort. I would reserve a 1 bedroom Spring unit at Solara Surfside in November and you will get 3 weeks. Your original exchange and 2 bonus weeks (one in Mexico). And, these are all high quality weeks. If you sign up for platinum ownership, you can trade for a 2 bedroom instead of a 1 bedroom unit.

Dial an exchange is an alternative many people here like. DAE will trade anything for anything. It's free to join. All you need to do is book a 2000 point studio at Big Cedar (cost between $50-100) for next January and you put in a request at DAE for anything you want. If it comes through, that will be the cheapest exchange you will ever make. If it doesn't, cancel the point reservation and rebook for something else. But, at such a low cost, it's worth depositing since anything you get will be a trade up. DAE has good availability in Europe and the South Pacific.

Plus, you can always direct exchange a Bluegreen resort for anything available. I was just offered a direct exchange this week that I didn't take for a Spring unit at the Royal Mayan in Cancun with an owner who wants to go to Daytona Seabreeze. That would have been a good direct exchange.

There are other independent exchange companies, but I haven't used them. They include HTSE, TPI. I am sure there are Bluegreen weeks that they will take. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who have used a Bluegreen resort to trade in those independent exchange companies.

Can you tell me more about II? I went to their website and looked around and it looks like their exchange fees are a little cheaper then RCI. I did see it mentioned there was an initial membership fee and a yearly fee but couldn't find the $ amount; that's the main reason I use RCI is that Bluegreen pays my RCI membership fees with the yearly club dues I pay them whether I want RCI or not. What is their timeline for exchanges compared to RCI; do you have the 2 yr window? Anything else that makes it better then RCI like a provision if you don't get your requested exchange or I've read about extra weeks when you give them a good week?

    Thanks, Calie

      Calie,

I would go to the II forum and ask the same question. You will get a more complete answer than I can give you. The fee for one year membership is $84 with II. Often times you can get 2 years for the price of one. That's what I usually get from my WorldMark ownership.

One great feature of II is that it has a request first option. So, you can request a week before you deposit it.

II has most of the hotel brands in it. And, if you look at the highest rated resorts, they are usually II resorts.

        Sfx

I'm tempted to join SFX (heck, gold level is free, so why not?), but I did a bit of looking around first and it looks like the only BG resorts SFX will accept is Solara and Lodge Alley and only for certain dates. Then again, SFX will accept Lodge Alley for many High Red weeks in addition to some (but not all) Ultra Red weeks, so the points expenditure isn't too bad.
