  • updating to platinium

we are currently gold all bought thru big ceder we have 36000 points we thought we could buy the next 24000 to get to platinium thru the resale market talked to people at big ceder they of course say that does not qualify us to upgrade so called bluegreen direct and talked to 4 different people for confirmation of this all but one said the same thing cannot do it but one nice lady we finaly got to talk to said she has been with bluegreen for 10 years and it can be done if we do a secondary upgrade she called it witch in order to do we need to buy 3000 points from her at $2 a point and then we can buy the other 21000points on the resale market this would allow us to go from gold up to platinium. just want to know which is correct this lady sounded much more knowledgable and helpful than the rest. thanks in advance.

No thank you, I have to retire before I go Platinum.

I think what you maybe suggesting is that this site needs is a good spell check program. Even then, it won't catch 'to vs too' and it seems very few know the difference.

Jim - I have a similar situation as "tonyeng". I will be combining 3 BlueGreen timeshares into one ownership and was also told that I would need to purchase a minimum 3,000 points directly from BlueGreen, at the $2.10/point price, to make it happen. One of those is a fixed week which I believe will need to be converted to points prior to the combining process. You mentioned in your response to "tonyeng" that "There is a much cheaper way. I"ll send you a pm to help you understand the options."

Could you send me the information you had for tonyeng? I really do not want to dish out another $6,300.

                  Thanks for your time, regards,

                  -Mark

Others have replied to this, including Jim about a much less expensive way to do this and to PM him for the info, but I wanted to answer this question which doesn't seem to have been directly answered, and my HO is that we need to have the answer to the question displayed in addition to having Jim or whomever PM a less expensive way.

I would say, based on what you said, that everyone was telling you the truth, albeit slightly disjointed.

If you buy resale market points, other than through an authorized reseller company (and there is only one), those points will not automatically upgrade you to any premier level. So, I would say the people at Big Cedar did not lie to you but they may have misconstrued the information a bit.

You can buy non-qualified resale points and then buy a package of points from BG or an authorized reseller and have all your points then count toward a premier level. There are advantages to either road to that end.

However, you can't do that the other way around. You can't buy the minimum # of points (3,000 as you were quoted) and THEN buy resale points and have them count toward premier. If you did that, then you would have to do the upgrade purchase again to get all of your points once again upgraded to qualified points. (The way you wrote it, it sounded as if the lady was saying buy 3,000 points from me and then buy the rest resale......not...that won't work, unless you upgrade again.)

Depending on how many resale contracts you are upgrading, how many points you are buying, etc. will determine what the minimum # of points will be that you can buy. It varies from time to time, resort to resort, sales person to salesperson. Same as to cost per point. And the price per point will be higher for a smaller package of points that you are buying.

I hope this, along with any PM info from Jim, clarifies the different avenues to use.

You may also want to join the Bluegreen yahoo group.

When I upgraded and "traded" in a number of resort/weeks, one of those resort/weeks was a flex/float week. I did not have to do any conversion to it. They just added it in.

Your situation is a bit more complicated than Tony's. Please send me a PM with your telephone and I'll walk you through the options.

Was your changes done through BG? If that is the case, it wouldn't be an issue. But in my case, I had points from ebay, points from BG and points from Pinnacle in 5 accounts that had to be brought up to gold and set with one anniversary date. Even with some experienced people working on it on the BG side as well as Pinnacle, it didn't go without hitches. Since it has been completed, managing the accounts has been much easier.

Yes, it was with BG. I guess I missed that Mark was sending a "private message" to Jim and not a general question for all of us.
