    And issue "visa" branded cards...

so now we know where that 100M is going ..

can't get a mortgage for your timeshare..no problem...we'll put it on your Visa card....

    scary.

Bluegreen was already offering VISA cards. So what makes this different? Higher credit limits available apparently would be one thing if they are going to sell timeshares on this. I shudder to think about that, but oh well. Aside from raping people with the prices, having people get loans for timeshares is a HUGE reason I could not sell timeshares and especially if I was going to have them buy it on a credit card! YIKES!

    and what 100M?????

      prepaid visa cards

These are prepaid visa cards that are used by most timeshare companies as incentives. Nothing new about it.

"Within weeks, says Quadagno, it will launch a Visa-branded, non-reloadable prepaid card for Bluegreen Corp. that the Boca Raton, Fla.-based time-share-resort and golf-community developer can use to load incentives for potential buyers to hear presentations."

That's not how I was interpreting VA_Traveller's post at all. Bluegreen has been using prepaid VISA cards for quite some time already as incentives for people to attend owner updates and/or sales presentations (as a non-owner). So why would they be announcing something NEW that they have already been using?

VA_T seemed to be inferring they would issue you a VISA card with a high enough credit limit that would allow you to buy a timeshare.

Okay, I re-read the article and realized it pretty much says basically nothing that you can derive anything from! At least me! They do debit cards and prepaid cards. But BG already did prepaid cards but maybe their ability to do that funding dried up too and now they needed to get that funding from elsewhere which is why the gifting has been cut way back. They do know they have to reward people to come or people just won't come and with the recession $$$$ talks to people, not free airfare (that you end up finding you can't use). They need to get people in the door.

While reading a little bit more about Bluegreen and timeshares and the recession, I read (again) about them trying to get some of the bailout money. Did that happen or not?

Sign me as more than just a little confused.

The reason I inferred that (and you are correct, the article doesn't come out and say it) is that in July we purchased 3K points. They also wanted us to apply for a BG branded visa card. The scam, errr deal offered was we could put a downpayment on the visa card, and then get a lower interest rate on the remainder of the loan. Unfortunately, the computers that processed this were "down" when we agreed, and we had to finance @ a higher rate.

I am making the jump that they may be expanding that program somewhat, so a larger amount of a purchase would be put on a card. Since they already use prepaid cards (has anyone wondered if they track these purchases...?) as incentives, I don't see the reason to "announce" this partnership.

Even though, under normal circumstances, I am opposed to credit cards in general, I would like to get the BG credit card. I am usually in a bind for points to satisfy a rental need, requiring me to borrow my next year's points and therefore prepay my maintenance fees johnny on the spot, which means for me doing that with a credit card. With the BG credit card you get minuscule Encore Rewards for every dollar put on the credit card. BUT you get double credit when using it for a Bluegreen payment. So, I may as well use the BG card then to pay my maintenance fees and dues.
