  • BG pictures are copy righted ?

    I was told that I can not used BlueGreen’s pictures off their web page for ebay or craigslist. Is there anyone that would like to share some pictures of BG resort so I can get my points rented out. Thanks in advance Theresa

    I have a photo album on webshots from our stay at Falls Village. It's a couple of years old but you can feel free to use any of those picures you like. I posted a link to that photo album in this thread http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...ranson-mo.html .

      A couple years ago I was going to write a book about timesharing in SW FL. I sent letters to RCI and II for permission to use their terminologies, the stuff commonly used all over the place.

      RCI sent a warm and cuddly letter giving approval and asking if they could preview. II sent a very cold, terse letter saying NO.

      It did not matter that those things are already being used all over the Internet, and elsewhere.

      So I took my ball and went home.

        If you are writing a "scholarly" book (and you are indeed knowledgeable enough on TS to be classified as a TS scholar"), you can quote sources (give them proper credit, of course) and then discuss what it means in plain English as compared to RCIese or IIese. You don't need their permission. (I would consider the "Hawaii Revealed" series to be scholarly books. Easy reading, very useful, and not dry. Just what I would expect you to write.) However, I would question if you could routinely publish reams of RCI or II data on rankings, etc.

        Please note that I am not a copyright lawyer. However, your publisher will have a room full of them so don't worry.

          OTOH, I/we have had copyright issues before, & don't care to again. I/we have been on both sides of it.

          Kinda hard to write a TS Guide for SW FL without being able to say what resorts are affiliated with II, or to mention their ratings, etc.

          Never mind that jillions of others are every day.

            Gotta love google

            Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered “fair,” such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair:

            1.

            the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
            2.

            the nature of the copyrighted work;
            3.

            amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
            4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

              I am not sure if anyone actually answered your question...

              One way around the copy righted information is to use the bluegreenonline.com web address. A person can login to the site and look at pictures, unit layout, virtual tours and the summary info for each resort. They will not see points tables unless they have a bluegreen owner login.

              I have given the web address to friends wanting to check it out.
