  • Shorecrest I v. II

In looking at the points table, I am trying to figure out whether or not Shorecrest I has one bedroom units. I have figured that it is in I that we want to stay, but want to get two one bedroom units to take family with us. Since we are getting two units, I want one bedrooms to save points, and want to be on the ocean. Anyone have any wisdom on this resort? Thanks!

By "on the ocean" do you mean "ocean front", "ocean view", or on the "ocean side of the road" that separates Shore Crest I and II?

Well, we would like to be able to walk out of the door of the resort and get to the ocean in a manner of steps. Having an ocean view would be fantastic, but it's not a game changer for us. Aside from the location, what are the other differences?

We have just returned from Shorecrest 1. That is the unit on the beach, and a very nice beach it is. We were in a 2 bedroom, ocean front villa. I got to listen to the ocean as I lay in bed at night, and woke to it in the morning.

I hope to post an update on the units and villas in the next few days and the changes going on there. While we were there, they were changing furniture in the II unit (Shorecrest I was already done) and coffee pots were being replaced on our floor. Flat screen TVs are going in villas, our villa didn't have it yet.

For the Shorecrest 1, walk down the stairs (faster than the elevator) and you are a few steps from the beach.

I also recommend finding the coupons. Early bird specials are pretty good. We went to Giant Crab, ate well and didn't break the bank. It is also very close to Shorecrest. I ate so much that I don't think I can eat seafood for a couple months.

As far as "across the street" ShoreCrest II is a quiet residential/condo area. North Myrtle is much quieter and less congested than Myrtle Beach.

To cross the street at the Carolina Grand is much more difficult. Crossing at Shore Crest has not been a problem. Both times we stayed it was in the summer.

I personally prefer North Myrtle Beach, you can go to the congestion if you want, but don't need to either.

Availability is usually greater at II than I, especially if you are trying to go this year.

Thanks. We will be trying to go next June, 2010, so I will be calling right at the 11 month mark. Not being in the congestion would be wonderful! Would probably prefer Shorecrest I, so we could sit and watch the ocean from our room. But we will see what happens when I go to book it! We will need two one bedroom units, as we are going with the in laws.

                1-BR units at Shorecrest I

                Hi,
All of the one-bedroom units in the Shorecrest I are on the sides of the building and are ocean view, not ocean front. By ocean view, the ones on the left side of the building (as you face the ocean from the street) are what we jokingly call 'Dumpster View' because you are directly over the garbage dumpster (I'm trying to remember the numbers. I think they are rooms 1x01 and 1x02, where x is the floor number). The ocean view can be seen if you go out on the balcony, but not as easily from the unit.

The ones on the right side of the building are a short distance away from another building, so the view is also a bit restricted.

The 2-BR ocean front units have a very nice view. I like the layout. Instead of 2 1-BR, perhaps you should think about going for a 2-BR ocean front.

And, I really like Shorecrest II's marsh view. Forget the ocean view from S-II because those are really just 'Street View'. But the Shorecrest II is a bit roomier unit-wise. The walk across the street isn't that onerous. So, if it's a choice between 2 1-BR ocean view units in Shorecrest I or a 2-BR marsh view in Shorecrest II, I'd go for Shorecrest II. The S-II has a small pool and hot tub also, though the lazy river is only at S-I, if I remember correctly.

We nearly bought here years ago from the developer. I diagrammed the building and we made pros/cons when I was considering it. But the developer couldn't give us a summer week (they were sold out) and we didn't want a Nov week. This was when it was still fixed week and before they went to points.

Not sure I could handle having everyone in one room to do a two bedroom. We are going with my husband's brother, his wife, and their 2 kids. We have a child of our own. So I think it would be a bit crowded. So when I make my reservation, what would be the best way to make the request? I am never good at making them, but want to make sure we get what we want.

Both Shorecrests have a Lazy River

There is indeed a lazy river at Shorecrest II. We have used it many times. It is not as crowded as the one at Shorecrest I.

                      Unit Over Capacity!

Hmm. It appears like you are talking about 7 people in a unit for 6 people. It looks like two 1-bedrooms would work better or a 3-bedroom at the Carolina Grande.

If the resort finds out that you have 7 people in a 6-person unit, they can evict the whole group. While I haven't heard of this actually happening at a BG resort, I have heard of it happening elsewhere.
