  • Need to exachange or rent or something? Advice would greatly appreciated!

Hi there... We have 9000 points from July 1 of 2008 that we would like to do something with. We just moved and don't really have time for a trip anytime soon... so.... My questions are...

    1. Is it in our best interest to Rent, Exchange or do something along those lines BEFORE these points roll over on July 1?

    2. I never got an RCI account, how do I do it now?

    3. Am I better off exchanging or renting? If we exchange we are REALLY flexible and would just want a week somewhere out of the country in the next year with a beach. If that matters.

I admittedly do not fully understand the exchange system and plan to start reading some older posts right now and probably call BG tomorrow morning.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

    1. Regarding exchanging, unless there is a cancellation, I doubt if you could find any 9000 point units left in inventory in high red time before July 1, 2009. Even if you could, I am guessing that the Trading Power of such a unit might be low due to the short time frame. Most timeshare people have made their June plans by now and those that haven't are looking for a bargain.

Regarding renting, rentals could be good because non-timeshare people might not have made their plans (or they are planning on staying in a Cracker Jack motel box and might jump at the chance to stay in a spacious 2-bedroom condo). But with the economy down they will also be looking for bargains and you probably can't get a unit/week which would rent well at this late date. But renting requires some business savvy, some time, some luck, and assuming some risk.

If you are lucky, you might find someone in your circle of family and friends who might want to rent somewhere in the BG areas before or after July 1.

Assuming you aren't lucky and don't want to mess with renting, I would suggest that you look for a unit/week in red time after July 1 (I don't mean wait until July 1 but reserve now for a week much after July 1) that you think will trade well and deposit it right away with RCI. You might even want to reserve a late June, 2010 week and give it to RCI. You then would have until June 30, 2012 to use it. (Many of the older resorts do not have high red time {they were established before someone thought of high red} and their red time has high trading power. Some resorts have high trading power even with white time.)

    2. Contact BG right away to have them set up your RCI account. You are paying Club Dues and part of your Club Dues pays for your RCI account.
