  • Buyin points

My husband and I bought into Blue Green last October. We have 3,000 points which is NOT enough. We would like to buy more. We joined at Shen. Crossings which we love. Does it matter if we buy points at another location? We have seen some in other states for sale. How will that impact us and can we combine them. We currently have unlimited bonus time and Travelers Plus. We want to combine everything and build up our points. Thanks for any help and advice!

It won't matter where you buy them as points are points, especially since you already have the "Charter" benefits - bonus time, TP.

If you are seeking a Preferred Level (16000 is lowest, I think), it will matter at that point, but since you have so few right now, I'd say go collect points where you can find them cheapest and deal with combining for a preferred level later.

I think Boardgirl meant to say this clearer but buy resale if done through or under guidance/advice of a Pinnacle resale agent and this will allow you to reach the Preffered ownership and maximize you maintenance fees savings with multiple deeds!!! I hope you have read other postings here but buying resale will save big dollars. Read as much as you can....

There are many ways to make a resale purchase with various pros and cons. If you are interested in more details, send me a private message and I'll let you know more details of what is involved with each approach.

        1) Find your own seller. This is typically the cheapest way to go. However, you need to protect yourself against a) unscrupulous resellers, b) extended closing delays, c) errors in what you are actually purchasing, d) losing your upfront fee, e) purchasing a package that does not combine properly with your ownership.

        2) Work with a reputable reseller. If the reseller knows what they are doing, they can help you avoid the above issues. And, they can come up with a longer range plan for upgrades to various Premier levels while ensuring that your maintenance fees are low. This is the lower risk approach to buying and upgrading.

        3) Buy from the authorized reseller directly. This will ensure that your points always count toward the highest levels of VIP and Premier. You always have the lowest maintenance fees. And, your ownerships are combined and consoliated with the same anniversary date and all of the developer VIP benefits.

The best and most effective approach is to come up with a 2-3 year plan of what you want to do over time and use a combination of the above to maximize your ownerships and keep your fees low over time.

Do realize at any given time, Bluegreen could pull the rug out from under us and not allow points purchased from the secondary resale market to be used to gain preferred status. They keep threatening that from time to time over the last several years and in fact, I did upgrade with Bluegreen (before Pinnacle became available to get you nearly all of your benefits of buying from the developer) for this very reason.

Sales people are again currently in a stage where they are threatening this; not sure if it is true or not.

But that's just a word of caution about doing it this way. It would not stop me from buying points resale anywhere for as cheap as I can get them. And in fact, I currently have points that I bought on the secondary resale market that are not qualified points (can be used for my premier benefits).

Premier benefits are gravy! You bought from BG and a small # of points so you didn't get too totally screwed over it; you bought points to get you the VIP benefits of Traveler's Plus, including Select Connections, and unlimited bonus time. For some people that is not important but others that is a HUGE benefit. And bonus time is a HUGE benefit when you have a small # of points.

Read, read, read on here and ask lots of questions and you will be glad you did! Also, I suggest joining the bluegreen yahoo group. I personally like that format better but it could be because that was where I started first and I'm so resistant to change, but I have been here long enough that I am getting comfortable with this one too.

Pinnacle is the only authorized resale company/service for Bluegreen. You can find them at Buy and sell timeshare from a timeshare resale specialist!. See Boca's item #3. This is how I bought my last batch of points. I worked with a nice gal there that combined all the points to one anniversary date and made sure I got to the next VIP level. I believe that Boca may be working as an agent for Pinnacle. He is able to help keep your best interest into the finding and sale and combining of the points to give you best use.

I like BG a lot and have been an owner since 2002. My problem right now is not enough vacation time to use all my points, but at retirement, I won't have enough points.

Regardless of how many accounts you own, you only pay one membership fee of $129. And your maintenance fees are less expensive if your accounts are of like funds. Correct?? Could someone explain how maint fees are figured when you have more than one or two accounts...assuming both account's points are combinable and of the same fund?

As far as I can tell, BG just adds up the points you have in each particular Trust, and then calculates your fees based on that Trust's formula. For example, in Trust E, the formula is a base fee plus so much per point. On one of my accounts, the fee is the base fee plus so much per point. On the rest of the accounts, the fee is only so much per point.
