  • Another HELP request for Expiring Points.

I recently completed the purchase of Bluegreen points. This now gives me 16,000 saved points that will expire on July 31. I have been trying to figure out how to use them so that they are not completely loss.

My first thought was to use them toward a cruse, but I found out that you cannot use saved points for cruses.

It would be nice if could make some reservations and then rent them, but I currently have a week at The Falls Village in Branson that I have had no inquires about. I have no experience in renting, but from what I have heard on the forums, renting is very difficult at this time.

I understand that I can deposit them with RCI and have 2 years to find something thru RCI. If I do that, do I have to make the BG reservations or will BG pick something that has good trading power. I’m all the time reading about trading power. That happens if you can’t use the weeks you have traded for. Can you allow someone else to use them?

I understand that there are some places where you can give them your points and have them rent them for you. Is this maybe a way to go?

I would like to get something for them, but if they are going to be loss I would give them to someone if they could use them.

    Richard.

It will be tough to use these before 07/31 as they can not be used for High Red as they are saved points. Most of the older Florida resorts, Shenandoah Crossing and Christmas Mountain Village are only red even into July. I would book any of them for fourth of July week if you can find any weeks available and try like crazy to rent to Co-Workers, friends or family. If they have not rented 45 days before check in I would probably deposit with II or RCI. Unfortunatley the last week you could use these points in Branson or BCWC is the week of 05/29. The same is true for all the Myrtle Beach locations. A week earlier in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge.

    Good luck

Thanks btcctomtb for your reply and thoughts. Althought I haven't done a trade before I guess this will be a good time to check it out and learn how it works. We have been real happy with the BG resorts and have a lot more of them to visit so really hadn't thought about the trading route. Richard

I'm very new to this and haven't even had my points for a year yet but I would trade then in RCI

I wish I could. I called BG a couple of days ago to do that and was told after about a 20 minute wait that there was nothing between how and July 31st available for trade to RCI. I'm now calling everyday and waiting about 20 minutes each time hoping to catch a cancellation. Richard.

in that case I would do the same as you are as well as checking what BG has to offer and try to sell/give away that trip to someone
I wish I could buy your points from you but as it is I can't afford the vacations we have booked for this summer

I have not deposited much from BG but I was under the Impression that if you book a resort which is affiliated with RCI and needed to cancel you could deposit with RCI? Hopefully someone can clarify this for us.

In the same sense I have wondered if we were to book Bonus Time Reservation if we could deposit with RCI?

Have you tried calling RCI and asking them what would happen if you deposit your points without doing an immediate exchange. That way you will probably have 2 years to find an exchange. I usually deposit my week about 2 months before hand (which I know is not how I should be doing it) but since I travel off season mostly it doesn't seem to affect me getting decent exchanges. Actually I'm contemplating depositing my September week for points. I don't have any immediate plans but would like to use the points next year to book a few short notice last minute deals with low 7500 points.
Maybe you can try that with your points. I don't really know much about BG but I have RCI points and this is how I've been doing it. Hope this wasn't more confusing for you.

Doesn't work that way with Bluegreen points. The points have to be used to secure a week thru Bluegreen which is then deposited. The problem this owner is having is that there are no weeks to be had that she can get with those points. There is nothing that RCI can do with BG points.

Bonus Time is for owners only, so, no, cannot deposit those.

Cancelling what you were going to use and exchanging it instead: Maybe. RCI accepts most everything but has some restrictions, usually concerning unit type or check-in day. Could be the week you have reserved would be accepted, but you'd have to call BG to make sure on that. But generally, Yes, this can be done.

                    Maybe!

By cancel, I assume you mean you have reserved a week and now find that you cannot use that week at that resort yourself. I assume you also mean that you do not want to "cancel" your reserved BG week and get your BG points back since the BG points would not be too useful at this point in time due to their expiration period and/or your personal calendar. So, your question is, could you deposit this BG week right now with RCI even though you reserved it perhaps quite awhile ago. If I am correct, here is my response.

Maybe. The deed that covers the particular unit/week might have been set up as a Friday to Friday week. RCI knows that. Now, if you reserved that particular unit as a Saturday to Saturday week, RCI will not accept it since in their system it is a Friday to Friday week.

Additionally, you must deposit your BG week withing 2 weeks of its start date. The following is from the RCI Help section:

"How far in advance can I deposit my week—and how close?
You can deposit from two years to *14 days before the start date of your Vacation Week. The earlier you deposit, the more you maximize your Trading Power and the more opportunities you'll have for a match when you're ready to make an exchange.

*If you have a deposit that is less than 14 days before the start date of your week, please call 1-800-338-7777 and speak with an RCI Guide for assistance."

Note that the closer you are to the start date of the BG week you wish to deposit, the poorer the exchange you can make (unless you luck out). Again, the following is from the RCI Help section:

                    "What is Trading Power?
RCI prioritizes exchange requests according to established Trading Power guidelines. The Trading Power of your deposit is based on the supply, demand, and usage of the week, resort and area you deposit. Other factors that influence your deposit's Trading Power include season, unit configuration, the resort's Vacation Experience Profile (VEP), and how early you deposit the vacation time with RCI. Depositing your week in our Deposit System early, and submitting an exchange request well in advance, maximizes your opportunity to confirm a desired exchange."

Thanks Charles that is the answer I was looking for. The OP has points expiring in July, I think I would take a weak trader over losing the points all together. I dont see any thing on bonus time that is not High red. So hopefully the OP keeps trying and gets lucky to get something banked.

To the OP I would be calling BG everyday and checking. You can deposit with RCI less than 14 days but I think it costs about $75. You would have 2 years to use the banked weeks after the check in date of the week you deposit.
