  • Warning--watch out

This is to help you--take it for what it is worth.

Last year I discovered a false charge on my ATT bill. I got it off the bill (4 months worth) ATT gave me credit.

Just discovered another false charge, this from "Talent and more" a group that makes web sites for people.

The law now is that if ATT charges you for something, they must have your permission. BUT, IF A 3RD PARTY CHARGES TO ATT, to your account, they do not need to provide your OK. So this person has charged to me 2 times--and I am limited as to what I can do.

I called the attorney generals office in Little Rock, and they they say their hands are tied. the law protects 3rd party charges.

So, watch your phone bill, be sure the charge is a "correct charge." Read your bill carefully and call and question something you do not understand.

I do not want my BG family getting ripped off.

I believe I'd give ATT the option to correct this problem or I'd change phone companies.

How can someone else put a charge on your phone bill? Do they randomly pick numbers and just bill them?

My thought exactly. If AT&T is allowing anyone to put a charge on my bill and then forcing me to pay that charge when I didn't authorize the charge in the first place, I'd be finding me a new carrier for my phone service.

It is not that ATT allows it, but

          ATT can not stop it.

Believe me, I have talked to ATT and the Attorney Generals office in our state.

Now I am talking with local police and we are trying to find some way to go after this guy.

When they "pick" a number, your are ripped. Sounds impossible, but they know the loop holes

If you have any ideas, I will listen, as of now I will try anything.

Probably will change my phone number or just do away with it.

Some do. Usually they are a little more upfront then this example, but it happens. Usually when you go to a web site that you have entered your phone # on, and in the fine print somewhere it will state that by just ENTERING the #, you authorize some service.

We've seen and had to deal with this sort of thing on a couple of occasions. The first was with a cell phone, the second was with our credit card. Both were $9.99/month charges for some services we supposedly ordered. We'd never even heard of these companies before, much less ordered monthly services from them. The charges were taken off but there was no way to block the charges from occurring again. It's irritating to have to call every month and "please hold" to get the charges removed. You're not allowed to block numbers or companies from making the fraudulent charges. Then our bank started not immediately taking the charges off of our card (I assume due to the banking crisis) so that they could investigate. Both times we searched the internet for these companies and there were a lot of complaints about them for the same thing. I can not believe that it was the first time that the phone company or bank had knowledge of this scam occurring. The only way we could stop it was to change phone numbers and credit card numbers.

I had a similar problem with Quest Comm and Verizon.

Quest refunded me but Verizon refuse until I filed a complain with better business bureau.

I still lost money, becuse they did not refund the tax.

I want to make this clear, ATT refunded

the money I was out. So in that way, I did not lose money.

The deal was I had to find it to start with, and I had a few hours talking with the ATT, website people, Att. General's office, etc. for which I was not compensated.
