  • about buying points

Hello all i had the sampler package and used it at Shore Crest went to the meeting they want u to go to, he went through his pitch trying to get us to buy, then i asked if he could match for what i can buy at a reseller, they dont like that very much lol anyways he was telling me that if i buy from a reseller it will be coded in the computer that i bought from a resller and not bluegreen, he also said if i bought points from a reseller and later on buy a package from Bluegreen i wont be able to combine the points, im not really worried about all the stuff that u get when u buy from bluegreen.

Here is some additional information that should help you clear the smoke from the air.

There are several ways to make a Bluegreen Points purchase.

    1) You can make the purchase directly from the resort. This is the way most people buy. This is paying full retail.

    2) You can do an upgrade at a resort, this is what they try to do for you when you attend an owner update. The way it works is they take back everything you own and do an equity trade in toward a new package which is more points than you currently own. They call it a "combined" package or they claim its on one deed or contract. But, all it really is is a point package deeded at a single resort, with a common anniversary date and in a common trust fund. When they say combined, this is what they really mean. It turns out that there are several ways to "combine" accounts. This is also paying full retail for points.

    3) You can make a purchase from an authorized reseller. If you do, then you get all the VIP/Premier features that they offer you at the resort. It costs a lot less than full retail and you get the same benefits. There are only a small number of things you don't get like a free binder, some RCI certificates for last call vacations, 4000 anniversary points and a charter member certificate. Otherwise, you still get unlimited bonus time, Traveler Plus with Select Connections and Premier if you have enough points.

    4) You make a purchase from anyone else. These are resale purchases from a non-authorized reseller or directly from an owner. These points do not count toward VIP or Premier benefits.

Given the above. Here are the rules for combinations:

    1) Anyone who makes any purchase of a Bluegreen points package in any way is entitled to a complimentary RCI account. That is a privilege you receive for paying annual dues of $129 per year.

    2) You can combine ownerships into a single account and pay only ONE annual dues. You just need to make sure the accounts are linked properly. Any of these points can be used to book reservations at any Bluegreen resort. Points from any ownership in a combined account can be used for making a reservation.

    3) You can only change anniversary dates if you make a purchase from the resort or from an authorized reseller.

    4) You can only change trusts if you make a purchase from an authorized reseller. This is important if you own a lot of older packages that have high total maintenance fees. This can add up quickly and is one of biggest reasons to upgrade.

    5) You can only get VIP/Premier if you make a purchase from an authorized reseller or Bluegreen.

    I hope this helps.

No, what they say about the coding is true. If you make a purchase that is not from Bluegreen or a Bluegreen authorized reseller, then your account is marked in RED. Everyone in owner services and the call centers can see it. It means those points do not count toward VIP/Premier features and the agents will enforce those policies. It is Bluegreen's enforcement mechanism for resale purchases.

But, there is fully legitimate way to "get the red out." Send mea private message is you are interested, I have the Visine for Bluegreen resale points.

What is also true is that when you attend an owner update, the sales team will print out your complete ownership in preparation for you update. They will know what you own, who you bought it from, how much you paid and when you bought it. When that happens, it truly feels like a violation of your privacy. Just expect it if you want to attend owner updates. A lot of owners get truly fearful after such a meeting. If that happens to you, just post your experience here and we will tell you what is smoke and what is reality. The best thing to do is to stay away from owner updates.

There is a problem with the owner update and the full print out of points purchased. Somehow, (maybe just for me) the total points package don't print out, just up to the last purchase through Bluegreen. When I go for the update, only 1 or 2 of my 5 account numbers will be printed out, then there is the questions from them about how much I really own, and how did I get it, etc.

My last purchase was through an authorized reseller, and combined into one annv. date, but you would think the only purchase that actually counted (to them) was the purchase I made through Bluegreen.

I like bluegreen, just not the owners update.

Its quickly becoming a toss up if the cash is worth the hassle. My last one, we were in the process of buying a house, awaiting loan approval, etc, and they still wanted us to get a loan to buy more points. They said it would have "very little effect" on the house purchase. Knowing better, I just kept declining, as politely as I could.

This is simply because the person looking up your information is LAZY and/or doesn't really know how to use the computer system.

Remember, they are looking at the transaction database, not the ownership system that reservations sees. As a result, what they have is contract information for all transactions you've done. If you do a lot of transactions, then it's virtually impossible to figure out what has happened to your account.

When I attend an owner update, they look at my account and just come and ask me about my account rather than printing off several reams of paper.

I really don't attend owner updates anymore. When I do, I don't ask for a gift. I really do ask for an update.

Last resort visit, I had asked for an update only, was told that it would be sometime mid week, mid day, if they could work me in. Finally got to a point where we wanted to know some things, so told them again that we wanted an update. We got booked, went in, filled in the paperwork...they were too busy to see us and could we come back the next day? We did come back, and had a good update. Sales guy (older and more experienced) didn't think his paperwork was right, so asked us about our accounts. When he had additional information, he got the full account paperwork.

Jim's buying info here should be a sticky - very helpful

Jim - we spoke over email three times late wednesday of last week.

The info you've given in this post should be mandatory reading for anyone coming to these forums. Even though I've read most of your posts, this one was somehow different, answered all the buying questions we've ever had, and was extremely clear.

You've explained it very well and it's easy to understand and absolutely necessary in order to navigate these murky waters. As always, thanks for the unselfish advice and honest help. We'll continue to talk here at home, and when my wife and i decide to pull the trigger and upgrade - it will of course be with you. Everything the sales people tell us you already know and we have not fallen for their gimmicks because you prepared us to go in there. When they share the truth, you affirm it, and when they share untruths or stretch the truth, now we can see through it. We are so far ahead of the game now due to this forum, the yahoo forum, and your patience. Thanks!

                    Steve

I think that the minimum amount you can buy is 3000 points when you tradein. Contact Jim in the message before you. He will help you.

Just an update to this thread. As of August 21, 2009, Bluegreen changed the rules for upgrading accounts via its authorized reseller. It is no longer possible to make resale points count toward Premier if they were purchased AFTER Feb 21, 2007 and they weren't upgraded BEFORE, Aug 21, 2009.

In other words, it is no longer possible to remove the red from resale accounts.

All points must be purchased from Pinnacle Vacations or Bluegreen to count toward Premier status.

If you have any points that do not qualify for Premier, send me a private message and I'll provide you with the options available for your account.

                              Boca,

Can you still "trade in" resale contracts with BG or Pinnacle, buy some more points, and get "new" contracts on different unit/weeks and have all of the "new" contracts count towards premier?
