      Jim,
Could you please tell me how I ca get the red out of some points I purchased with an unauthorized resaler?

Everyone in owner services and the call centers can see it. It means those points do not count toward VIP/Premier features and the agents will enforce those policies. It is Bluegreen's enforcement mechanism for resale purchases.

But, there is fully legitimate way to "get the red out." Send mea private message is you are interested, I have the Visine for Bluegreen resale points.

What is also true is that when you attend an owner update, the sales team will print out your complete ownership in preparation for you update. They will know what you own, who you bought it from, how much you paid and when you bought it. When that happens, it truly feels like a violation of your privacy. Just expect it if you want to attend owner updates. A lot of owners get truly fearful after such a meeting. If that happens to you, just post your experience here and we will tell you what is smoke and what is reality. The best thing to do is to stay away from owner updates.

Bluegreen changed the rules for getting the red out. As of Aug 21, 2009, that is no longer possible. The only way to do it now is with some type of trade in.

Send me a private message and I will provide you with some options for doing just that.

There are several ways to make a Bluegreen Points purchase.

          1) You can make the purchase directly from the resort. This is the way most people buy. This is paying full retail.

          2) You can do an upgrade at a resort, this is what they try to do for you when you attend an owner update. The way it works is they take back everything you own and do an equity trade in toward a new package which is more points than you currently own. They call it a "combined" package or they claim its on one deed or contract. But, all it really is is a point package deeded at a single resort, with a common anniversary date and in a common trust fund. When they say combined, this is what they really mean. It turns out that there are several ways to "combine" accounts. This is also paying full retail for points.

          3) You can make a purchase from an authorized reseller. If you do, then you get all the VIP/Premier features that they offer you at the resort. It costs a lot less than full retail and you get the same benefits. There are only a small number of things you don't get like a free binder, some RCI certificates for last call vacations, 4000 anniversary points and a charter member certificate. Otherwise, you still get unlimited bonus time, Traveler Plus with Select Connections and Premier if you have enough points.

          4) You make a purchase from anyone else. These are resale purchases from a non-authorized reseller or directly from an owner. These points do not count toward VIP or Premier benefits.

          I hope this helps.

          Jim

This is great summary of options. I have one question about the Charter Certificate. You said it is not part of the package buying authorized points, but what I see on the Charter Certificate I have from a Bluegreen direct sale is:

          1. VIP Program - Unlimited Bonus Time, Year-round Day-Use Privileges and On-site Concierge Service
          2. Traveler Plus - Enhanced Membership VIP Program, Hotel Points Program, Owner Adventures, Grand yacht Club, Coast to Coast RV resorts and Direct Exchange
          3. Resort Exchange Membership - Initiation fee Waiver
          4. Encore Rewards Enrollment

So from this list, is there anything we wouldn't have when buying authorized points from an authorized dealer? Is it that we just wouldn't have the piece of paper that says "Charter Certificate" but we'd still have all the benefits on it?

          Thanks

Ok, a question (maybe two) about buying points from an authorized dealer, I requested info on a points sale from an authorized resaller and received a reply that stated inpart following:

"Please be advised that these points do not come with the Bluegreen Ancillary Benefits. This means you will not got charter benefits which includes the ability to make unlimited bonus time reservations at any Bluegreen Resort and the ability to join Bluegreen's Traveler's Plus Program" it goes on to say "This listing would also not be eligoble to be counted toward Bluegreen's Premier Levels".

I have copied/pasted below part of a post dated Jun. 2005,

My questions are these, 1. Have the Bluegreen rules changed for resall point sales sence this post. 2. Is this because it maybe an older Bluegreen points purchase and these options were not available at the time of purchase or 3. can the seller sell these options independent of points sale?

The only authorized reseller is Pinnacle vacations. Last year they changed the rules so that you either need to purchase directly from BG at the resorts or through Pinnacle for at least $1.25 per point to get charter benefits. For any other type of purchase, you just get the points and bonus time at the resort listed on the deed.

Ahhhhh! Thanks kc that clears it up. I'm not sure if I need all that stuff anyway. My concern was that if later on I wanted to upgrade would these points that i purchsed apply toward that but if I understand correctly they would not.

They used to allow you to convert unauthorized points to authorized if you bought new points, but they stopped doing that.

The other thing you might consider is buying a minimal size package to get charter benefits like bonus time everywhere and Travelers Plus, and then buying resale points to add on to it. You have to learn about and understand the various Trust Funds the packages are in to make sure the maintenance fees combine most efficiently.

Jim (BocaBum) can help with with the different options. He can get you points though Pinnacle as well as other sources.

Thanks for the info. The wife and I bought a sampler package three years ago and for the last two have rented points from a friend and we have enjoyed the resorts we have been to. We want to do the Bluegreen thing but do not want to get taken advantage of so I'm trying to get all and understand all my options. Thanks again.

If I buy unauthorized points from different sources can the two contracts be combined to lower the MF.

I have authorized points and unauthorized points. They are all combined in my one account. However, I was careful to make sure that each purchase was in Trust Fund E so I only pay one base fee. If they were in different Trust Funds then the units in each Trust Fund would be calculated using that Trust Fund's equation.

                          Thinking about Bluegreen

I have visited over 12 Wyndham properties over the years and have decided to buy a few resale properties. I'm leaning towards Wyndham or Bluegreen (the maint fees and costs are close) but I have never visited a Bluegreen TS and would like some feedback from BG owners on the quality of the Bluegreen condos. I have been fairly happy with the Wyndham properties - is bluegreen about the same quality (a few places are outdated but most are very nice). Have you visited any BG properties that are really bad?

                            Shell

At our original sales presentation, we were told that we would only have access to the shell resorts if we bought authorized points. Is that true?

This is true but can be purchased through BocaBum for much less than through the developer. This feature is part of the Select Connections and is available through Travellers Plus which only comes with authorized points.

                                travelers plus

Is there any way to renew travelers plus without buying more points from bg? They told ud at the last update that the minimum to buy is now 10,000 points and that is the only way to renew it. We really would like to get it again since we now understand what we are losing out on. Mostly hot weeks and cruises. RCI meant nothing to me and I never cared if we had it or not.
