  • Club La Pension

I just traded for a week in a 2 BR at Club La Pension for Aug. 28. (I guess we'll see what the weather brings.) I have never been to New Orleans or stayed in a Bluegreen resort before. I have stayed in mostly Wyndham's and Marriott's and have been happy each time.

Can someone let me know what to expect at Club La Pension? Rooms? Proximity to things? Nearby restaurants etc? I searched the forum and haven't found much info.

    Thanks!

And if you have questions about the recommendations, I'd be glad to answer them.

Going to New Orleans in August, well, you'll know how a crawfish feels when it's swimming through a pot of gumbo.

BTW, there are, in fact, four seasons in New Orleans: Oyster Season, Crawfish Season, Shrimp season and Crab season. August is the beginning of Shrimp season.

Gulf shrimp are some of the best you'll find, so enjoy that. But plan on ducking into air conditioned environments repeatedly throughout the day, and hydrate thoroughly, all day, every day.

Club La Pension is on the edge of the French Quarter, and walkable to almost everything you would want to see as a tourist, as well as most of the best restaurants. If you want to go to the zoo or Garden District, the St. Charles Streetcar will get you there, and it is walkable from the resort. But not air conditioned.

Thank you for the help! I appreciate the weather warnings. Thankfully, I am one of those people who almost enjoys 100 degree heat and high humidity, but freezes if it gets below 70 degrees. Unfortunately, I live in Minnesota. As soon as the kids graduate from high school, I'm headed south!

That's really funny! I went to New Orleans last Aug and will be there again this year. It's actually not that bad...

anyone know the reservation rules for fixed/flex weeks at Club La Pension? It's a relatively new resort and I haven't had to deal with it yet. The Bluegreen reservation line has a special call prompt just for reservations at this resort which means the reservation rules are too complex for the normal reservation line.

We were there at the end of end of May and the weather was perfect at that time. Places to eat are right down the street. We really enjoyed Bubba Gumps. We also really enjoyed Oh Henrys at the curve of the Saint Charles Route (trolley). Take the trolley and see the mansions, college, parks, etc.
Get on and off all day. Best day trip we've ever had.

From the map I've seen you are going to be in a good location. I would recommend heading down to the French Market one morning and geting some coffee and benigets. Ralph and Kacoo's is your traditional touristy fish shop but a good place to eat. For something with a little more local and worth the small dirve out of the Quarter head to Deanies Seafood in Bucktown. It was our favorite when we lived there.

Nice resort in a great location and after staying there I would say it is as good as the Quarterhouse.

                        Big Frank,

I'm so happy you would compare it to the Quarterhouse! Everyone raves about the Quarterhouse, and there was a one bedroom available when I traded in, but we really needed a 2 bedroom, so I grabbed La Pension knowing nothing about it. Yay!

BTW I also own a 2 bedroom at the Quarterhouse.

I own at both Quarterhouse and Club La Pension and I would agree that they are roughly comparable. Quarterhouse is 2 blocks closer to Bourbon St., and on a quieter street, and CLP is 2 blocks closer to Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde and the French Market. Quarterhouse has a small pool and CLP does not (though it has a jacuzzi on the roof), if that matters to you.

                              Any update from the OP,
I will be there next month and was curious if I should ask for any specific room (as far as better views or being renovated).
                              Thanks
