Which Myrtle Beach Resort?

My wife and I have some blue/white points to burn, so we were thinking about an early November trip to Myrtle Beach for some R&R. What we are looking for is a quiet, clean resort with a good heated or indoor pool. We like to be close to things....but not too close. We are non-golfers, but like to walk the beach. Suggestions are welcomed....SeaGlass ??? Shorecrest ??? Carolina Grande ??? Thank you!

I have only stayed at Shorecrest, but have stayed there about 3-4 times. They do have indoor and out door pools, they are on the beach, they are in North Myrtle about a mile off the main road. That road gives you easy access to Barefoot Landing (that mile drive from the resort takes you to the cross street for Barefoot Landing), several restaurants, there is a Walmart and other brands of stores not far for your grocery shopping.


We were there last March, and have been thinking of going there next March. Just yesterday, my wife and I were discussing places to go next March, Shorecrest, St. Augustine, Marathon were names that came up.

Shorecrest and CMV are our only 'repeat' resorts. Not because the others were not worth visting again, but because we haven't gotten back to them.

Two resorts in Myrtle Beach

My family and I have stayed at two resorts in Myrtle Beach. Harbour Lights is nice and quiet but is five miles away from the beach.
Seaglass Tower is right on the beach and has a small indoor pool. I would not recommend Seaglass during any bike week. we were on the side of the building, 10 floors up and were kept up with the noise from the street. If you can land a ocean front room you will enjoy more.

Shore Crest would probably be best if you want on the beach but not be on the main strip. SeaGlass and Carolina Grande are very nice but being on ocean blvd, they have more traffic.

Shorecrest is peaceful. Phase II has a very large indoor hot tub, Phase I has indoor pool and hot tub. Phase I is oceanfront, Phase II is across the street - not a busy street, very easy to cross.

Have not been to other BG Myrtles and might never, having loved Shorecrest so much.

SeaGlass units are only 1 bedroom and are small. But the view is awesome!!! I wouldn't want more than 2 people in a SeaGlass unit. But many manage 4 (But don't ask me how).

I have stayed at both Carolina Grand and ShoreCrest.

I much prefer the ShoreCrest area. Much quieter, less congested. Both visits were in summer season, once in June and once in August.

The street in front of Carolina Grand is difficult to cross, ShoreCrest is similar to a regular residential street, no issue in crossing. I is oceanfront, II is across the street. You have access to either's amenities.

Shorecrest II

We stayed at Shorecrest II (across the street from the beach - nice outdoor pool with a slightly lame lazy river) - staying there is what prompted us to buy in MB (we bought OceanWatch by marriott and are thrilled with it). Shorecrest is a nice little resort, the units are well put together albeit smallish. It was a great stay. Shorecrest I would have been my preference to be right on the beach, but it was hardly burdensome to cross the street to hit the sand.

Avoid Maritime Beach Club

Whatever you do, avoid staying at or purchasing at Maritime Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach. Property is horribly managed by Defender Resorts and it appears the maintenance fees have little to do with maintenance. If you are looking to buy, avoid any property managed by Defender Resorts. Your RCI Points membership tracks your points accurately, but these unethical, dishonest folks charge owners an EXTRA $49 to do the same damned thing.

Oh, also note that if you use more than a roll of toilet paper that week, they charge you. If you need more than one set of towels for the week, they charge you. Furnishings? Most must have been bought at the Salvation Army Thrift Store on sale.

I think for November I would go with Harbour Lights. It's the only Bluegreen MB resort not right on the beach, however you might prefer being somewhere a bit more sheltered that time of year. It's five miles from the beach but you can generally get a State Park Pass from the front desk, and both nearby state parks are right on the beach and generally nifty. Coming in from 501 isn't so nice, but the route over the new overpass takes you through better neighborhoods and avoids a lot of traffic if you're going to either state park. We thought the resort itself was lovely.

Harbour Lights has an indoor pool and two outdoor pools. We requested (and got) a unit right on the Intercoastal Waterway; I enjoyed watching the boats go by and whatnot. Most of the 2BR units not on the Intercoastal Waterway have a view of a pond with fountains, as do the 1 BR deluxe; the hotel rooms have a view of the parking lot. The 2 BR and 1 BR deluxe are good sized; the hotel rooms are tiny.

If you don't want to be in the thick of things but you do want to be on the beach, then go for Shorecrest. Shorecrest I has an indoor pool and is right on the ocean; Shorecrest II is across the street and doesn't have an indoor pool but I'd assume you get to use the one at Shorecrest I. The outdoor pool at Shorecrest II is heated but I don't know how sheltered it is. Shorecrest is the only one we haven't seen but I hear it's very nice.

Sea Glass is right on the ocean in the thick of things and the units are smallish, however the view from most units must be stunning. Carolina Grand is a few blocks from Sea Glass and across the street from the ocean; some units probably have a great view but I would guess most do not. It's a busy street to cross in the summer but might not be such a hassle in November. The outdoor pool is heated, but it's also six floors up - my kids would use it in November, but I doubt I would. Carolina Grande is the only one that doesn't have an indoor pool, although I think I've heard that you can get use of an indoor pool across the street-? Would be my last BG choice with your criteria, anyhow.

In terms of shopping, I believe that Shorecrest is closest to Barefoot Landing, while Harbour Lights is closest to The Market Common. In terms of golf, Harbour Lights is close to Whispering Pines, World Tour and River Oaks, Shorecrest close to Azalea Sands, Beechwood and Possum Trot. Harbour Lights is closest to Conway Country Club, which is supposedly the cheapest golf deal out there.
