  • help, Montgomery, TX, Houston

I was going to lose 6,000 pts, so in desperation I booked a Hot Weeks at First Fairway at Walden, in Montgomery, TX

So I least now I only lost 3000 pts. But I know nothing of this area. So it will be adventure for us, hopefully to learn and have some fun.

Does anyone know this area? I know Houston is dangerous, even the cops are dangerous from what I hear.

So Please, if you know anything, tell me.

Houston, like any big city, has dangerous areas. Montgomery isn't one of them. Like any big city, the dangerous areas are where you find high concentrations of poor people; resort areas do not qualify. I have daughters who live in the Houston area in widely separated areas of the city; they do not live in dangerous areas. I'm sure you aren't afraid to visit L.A.; it has very dangerous areas. Orlando has very dangerous areas, and they are close to tourist areas. Washington D.C. has very dangerous areas, and they are close to tourist areas. New Orleans is more dangerous than Tijuana, and unlike Tijuana, much of the violence in New Orleans occurs in tourist areas. You'll be quite safe in Houston.

Montgomery County is north of Houston, the closest city is Conroe. However, Houston has suburbs all the way out to Conroe now.

As PStreet stated, Houston has dangerous areas, but not where you will want to visit, shopping, entertainment, restaurants.

You will be up at Lake Houston, a very nice lake with lots of 2nd vacation homes and residential areas.

There is lots to do in the area. When will you be visiting?

        arrive July 4--leave 11

I realize danger is normally being in the wrong place at the wrong. AT my age, I can usually I tell tell

but I do not know the area's. The last time I was in Houston I was 14 (1964)

we do plan to go to Galvaston one day, at least, maybe two.

Because so much of Galveston still doesn't have things back to normal, you'll find big traffic delays going and coming. My daughter lives in Clear Lake (very far south Houston area) and works even farther south, but not in Galveston. Her commute time has more than doubled. When we were in Clear Lake for a graduation in June, I couldn't believe the weekend traffic to Galveston. There is always traffic on the weekends; lots of people going and coming to the beach, and I'm used to it, but this was un-real: backed up freeway exits, roads to Galveston at an absolute stand still. At one point, a drive that should have taken 10 minutes took over 45.

I say that not to discourage you, but to let you know to take traffic into account in your plans.

Galveston is a fairly long drive from Conroe with heavy traffic on Houston freeways. If you plan for two days then spend the night down there.

Houston is a fine city. What do you like to do? It has a very nice museum district. Of course the Galleria shopping mall and surrounding area with lots of good restaurants. Otherwise just enjoy the Conroe area. Sam Houston National Forest and Huntsville State Park in the in piney woods with nice trails for walking/hiking. Lake Conroe has boating and fishing.

......and take a ride over to Old Town Spring, Texas. Not too far from where you will be just south. It's a Historic Area here is the link: Old Town Spring Texas - Shopping and Historical Railroad Town

I agree Galveston is a good drive, if you go do it on a weekday and try to avoid rush hour times and spend the night. I posted some links on your other post.
