  • Upgrade fee ???

What is the "upgrade fee" I've seen mentioned in several posts related to buying more points?

I don't know that there is a fee to upgrade other than buying more points. I am sure that Bocabum can help you out to get the points and upgrate to the next level.

Not sure what you mean by an upgrade fee.

There are several definitions of upgrade being discussed in these threads.

      1) an upgrade can simply mean adding points to your account. whatever that costs, can be described as an upgrade fee. It could be $1000 for a 10000 point package as an example.

      2) an upgrade can also mean promotion to a higher level of Premier features. Say Silver Premier. The fee for purchasing that package can be considered an upgrade fee. It could be $3000 for a 10000 package that gets you to Silver Premier.

      3) Since a promotion to a higher level of Premier is typically higher in cost than an equivalent package that does not come with such a promotion. The upgrade fee could be construed as the difference in price between the package that comes with Premier vs. the package that doesn't. In the two examples above, that would be $3000-1000=$2000.

      4) An upgrade fee can also be what the resort charges to trade in your points and upgrade you to a 20000 point Premier level. You give them back your 10000 points. They give you 20000 points deeded at a different resort. The net amount you pay is an upgrade fee.

      I hope that helps.

I guess I'm wanting to know if BG charges a specific fee in your example number 4 - "fee" meaning a specific dollar charge for the 'act' of upgrading my account (not related to net purchase price) - over and above the normal closing costs. I know, I know... "normal" is relative, lol.

An example would be if I were to buy enough points from you Boca to get me to Gold level. I am not currently at any premier level, but I do already have unlimited bonus nights, Trav. Plus, and the Yacht thingy.

I just wouldn't want to see a line on the closing statement that says something like:

        Upgrade Fee $1000.00

There is no such fee that will show up as a line item on any closing statement. Based on the context of your question, such an upgrade fee doesn't exist.

Occassionally, Bluegreen offers a special to convert fixed weeks to points. That is a fixed fee that is typically called a conversion fee. But, that also can be viewed as an upgrade fee. That line item would be on the closing statement as such.

            Thanks.

I'm going to have to look through my closing papers and see what I was charged when I converted a fixed week to points in 2006. That is how I initially bought into BG - a fixed week.

That program was fantastic. It was a one time event when they eliminated the bonus time VIP card. It was $295 to convert to points. I don't think we will ever see it that low again. It costs more than that to close it into the Trust.
