  • Moving up to Bronze

I am contemplating adding points to my 8,000 annual points to reach the bronze level. We have owned BG points for a few years now and have enjoyed vacations at Boyne, St. Augustine, and Pigeon Forge with trips to Hershey and Fountains already booked.

We are able to travel at off peak times because of my job and the children's school calendar, plus we prefer to avoid the crowds so we normally get the most for our points, but I am trying to determine if the bronze level would be worth the additional costs.

Aside from the additional 7,000 points which I figure will cost me $4K or so, how would I calculate the annual maintenance fees on 15,000 points? Have any others made this move? If so, are you statisfied with your decision?

The maintenance fees and taxes for 15000 annual points is $866.50 based on 2009 rates.

I would recommend going all the way to Silver. It will only cost you about little more money and the maintenance fees and taxes for 20000 annual are only $1052.

Do I need to worry about where I purchase the additional points? Would I still keep my same anniversary date of Feb. 1 regardless of when I purchase the resale points?

The only thing you need to do is make sure you purchase from an authorized reseller. It doesn't matter when you purchase. However, depending on what you own (the deed type), the closing may be more complicated.

When you do a resale upgrade purchase, you can pick your current anniversary date or the one your are purchasing for all your points. That is unless you own or are purchasing an a-type package (one purchased since Nov 1, 2008 until now). The rules for those are still being developed. More on this as I learn of the details.

The resort your purchase doesn't really matter unless you want to use your priority week most years. Your priority week is your underlying fixed week on which your points are based.

What do you mean by type of deed? I'm not concerned about the property on the deed because we typically vacation at different spots every year.

Do you have a better idea of how much it would cost me to upgrade to silver then? I guess I could use the extra points to send family on vacation as birthday or Christmas gifts.
