  • Best Myrtle Beach BG Resort

Can anyone make a reservation on the best BG resort at Myrtle Beach? I was there this summer and stayed at the Marriott Ocean Watchn and this summer I plan to stay at one of the BG resorts. We have three small kids and want something good for them and on the beach. We'll definately need something with two bedrooms. Any recommendations?

2 bdrms and beach...eliminates 2 of the 4. Go with Shore Crest.

Right now there is availability in two bedrooms in June and July for Shorecrest II, the Carolina Grande, and Harbour Lights. Shorecrest I (directly on the beach is booked).

Shorecrest II is across the street from the ocean. The street in NOT a busy street. Units do not have an ocean view. I understand that they are doing major refurbishments this fall but I do not have details. They have a lazy river. It is in a very quiet area (relative to downtown MB).

Carolina Grande is across a busy street from the ocean. The units are very nice and the outdoor pool is, I believe, on the 6th floor. It is in a busy part of town.

Harbour Lights in on the intracoastal and is at least a mile to the ocean. The units are larger and also quite nice. They also have a lazy river.

If I had 3 young kids, I would go with Shorecrest II. By the way, you can check availability online for the particular dates you would be interested in.

Is Shorecrest I or II run down at all? Based on the pictures, they seem like older resorts while Carolina Grande seems much newer and nicer. Any thoughts?

How far of a walk is it from Carolina Grande to the beach? Is the street so busy that you can cross it easily?

Shorecrest I units are showing some age but the majority of them are OCEANFRONT!! I haven't been in a Shorecrest II unit but they are doing some refurbishing this fall. I believe they are closing down the whole resort for several months. Without a traffic light, I would not want kids to cross the street in front of the Carolina Grande. While Carolina Grande is indeed newer and the units are nicer as long as the blinds are closed, once the blinds are open at Shorecrest I, Shorecrest I is nicer, hands down.

Hopefully, someone with kids who has stayed at the Carolina Grande can chime in on crossing the street. Also, you might want to post the same questions on the Bluegreen Yahoo group.

Shorecrest 2 bedrooms are nice. The master bedroom is large but the second bedroom only have twins beds in the unit.

You can look up the floor plans on the internet site, or you can do a reservation search and click on each unit for details. According to a reservation search, the Shorecrest I has a king in the master, 2 twins in the second bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. Carolina Grande has Kings in the master and second room, two doubles in the third BR and a sofa bed.

                  Hands down Shorecrest,

I have stayed at both Shorecrest II and Carolina Grand and would pick Shorecrest for the nicer relaxing beach area. If you want to go to Myrtle Beach it is a realtively short drive.

The street in front of Carolina Grand with small children is very difficult.

There is no courtesey to let people cross either.

The area around Shorecrest is more residential and never a problem to cross.

Enjoy Myrtle Beach it is one of our favorites so far.

Something else to consider is that some people prefer the Marshfront units at Shorecrest II (i.e., the ones across the street from the ocean) because they are bigger than the ocean front units at Shorecrest I. Haven't been there myself and don't know how much bigger, but enough that it matters to a fair few. Shorecrest II units take fewer points as well, memory serves.

I had a marshview unit, but damned if I could tell you where the marsh is.

I would return to Shorecrest again and again and never be concerned about which side of the road I'm on.

Having been to Myrtle Beach countles times, i agree with what everyone else has said. IMO, the rooms at Carolina Grande may be slightly nicer. However, if you want to relax without being in the middle of everything, Shorecrest is the way to go. The street in front of SCII has a small town feel to it. But you are only a couple blocks from the main attractions.
