We arrived late last night to Shenandoah Crossing and checked into our Yurt. I've made a separate thread for this post because this Yurt is the most unbelievable timeshare unit I've experienced to date.
Basically, a Yurt is a tent. That's right. It is a tent that is about as close to a teepee as you can get. If somebody told me that I was going to be staying in a tent, I would have cancelled the reservation immediately.
However, it's more than a tent. It's a high end luxury tent. This Yurt is a cylindrical structure on top of a platform. The platform is like a wood deck that you would have in your back yard in New Jersey (well, it's like the one I had in New Jersey). It has a wood frame, but there are no bricks, no siding, no insulation, no stucco, nothing. Just a vinyl tarp like I used to have on the back of my old Chevy El Camino.
That's where the tent analogy stops. Inside this Yurt is a high end, luxury condo complete with all amenties of a timeshare resort. It's the closest thing to camping in luxury I've ever seen. It has full electricity, central air conditioning and heat. It has a flat screen TV, full kitchen with refrigerator, stove top, dishwasher, microwave, double sink, dining room table. Very nice king size bed with canopy top. Sleeper sofa that is very comfortable. Telephone, internet, ample lighting and gas fireplace. Full bathroom with shower, sink, toilet. Everything you would expect from a high end timeshare resort.
To open the windows, you actually have to go outside, unhinge the flap and roll it up like a tent.
On the deck, there is patio furniture, gas grill and a great view of the trees in the area.
I wonder if they have these available in the winter. Without insulation, it probably costs a lot to heat.
After a long day of driving and getting here in the dark, driving up and entering this Yurt was a very pleasant surprise indeed.
