Trying to plan a last minute honeymoon

Hi,

This is my first post on the Timeshare Forums. I've searched through the forums for help, but it seems like I don't understand enough to properly search for the information I need. To be honest, I wasn't really prepared for how complex the time share industry is.

I am getting married in the beginning of November 2009. My new in-laws have offered the use of their Bluegreen time share points for a honeymoon. My fiancee and I hope to go on our honeymoon the week of November 9th, 2009. We didn't see any Bluegreen resorts that we are interested in and which are available that week though.

Is there any other way that we can use the points (18,000) that week? Can we transfer our points to RCI and find a honeymoon worthy place by early November? If we can make such a transfer, is it expensive to do so?

I have limited experience with RCI so there may be someone who corrects me on some of my info to you.

Your in-laws will need to book a vacation and deposit it with RCI. No cost to your in-laws at this point. You and your fiancee will need to search RCI for all available locations of interest to you. Your in-laws will book the site of your choice. Cost will be $189.00 for booking and $59.00 guest certificate that will book you and your fiancee into that resort. This should be done ASAP.

When do you want to leave? The 9th is a Monday, and almost no timeshares will have units starting on Mondays. Far more common are Fri/Sat/Sun weeks.

Your in-laws might be better at this late date to save their points and try for an Extra Vaction or Last Minute Vacation through RCI, somewhere where you would like to go.

There are a couple of weeks in Sedona, lots of units in Mexico, Florida, a dozen units in Hawaii (expensive), ande 8 units in Palm Springs, for example.

I would try World Hotels. They are pricey, but as long as you have Traveler Plus, they have lots of locations.

I also suggest they try Last Call or Extra Vacation via RCI.

It's pretty late in the game to get your top choice and even if they dumped 18000 pts, no guarantee. Given short timeframe, I would strongly caution them to NOT book that many points for a deposit to use on a week so soon that trading power should not be much of an issue.

It's unfortunate that this went until last minute.

Using an RCI deposited week that cost me 5000 BG points, I can see some 270 different resorts in the USA with a November 7 checkin. A July, 2010 deposit worth 9-10,000 points should see even more. (I did not check November 8 checkin.)

Where would you like to go? USA or elsewhere? If USA, where?

As others have mentioned, you're in an extremely short timeframe for making good use of those points. It may be you in-laws don't know how to get the best use out of them, either. Charles' suggestion is worth a shot, or you might do as my brother did and take a "quickie" honeymoon on the spot (he'd been threatening to honeymoon in York, Nebraska for years as a joke and they holed up there for an extended weekend), then take a "real" honeymoon when it works out better (they took a week-long tropical cruise). In your case, do something cheap and relatively close for a few days right after the wedding, then take your "real" honeymoon when you can get reservations at a resort you want.
