  • DRI - I have points I will lose 1-1-10

I finally decided to give up and give back my DRI PROPERTY- what a GREAT decision! However, I have several thousand points that I will forfeit on 1/1/10.

Does any one have any idea how I can get some value?

What do you mean by giving it back. Do you mean you will give DRI $250 to take it off of your hands? If you belong to the Club and have points there are several options like going on a cruise or getting airline miles for the points. How many points are you talking about? Go to the Diamond Selections book on the DRI website and it will tell you of the options you can use points for. You can only use up to a year's amount of points for the cruise.

I am sorry you are giving them back. The maintenance fees are killing us all.

You are past all the annual deadlines for any use as Carlos has indicated. You have six weeks to use them during 2009.

Spence, I thought you knew EVERYTHING about DRI.

I called the DRI corporate office and found out that I could trade my points FOR one year certificates with several choices from Great American Days (greatamericandays.com).

        A FEW OF THE CHOICES:

IN HOME PERSONAL DINING EXPERIENCE FOR 4 - 9114 POINTS
WHITE WATER RAFTING - 2042 POINTS
HOT AIR BALLOON - 3328 POINTS
IN HOUSE TRAINER - 1214 POINTS
SPA MASSAGE ETC. - 1400 POINTS

(Also - Drive a race car and Shark Diving)

I don't, but I did know that Great American are not good deals, but if you've put yourself in a position to lose them, then you're stuck with those poor exchanges.

Short of timeshare exchanges, I don't believe any of the options are a great dollar value. Having said that, any option is positive when it's considered against a complete loss. Not using the points at all results in zero value. Anything of value is better than nothing.

            OPKansas,

I'm glad you've found a way out that's acceptable to you. DRI appeared to be far more stress than it was worth in your situation when making vacation plans.

When can we look forward to not having to read "snippy" posts from you?

It is you, not Spence that is out of line in this thread......Your comment regarding Obama is inappropriate outside of the political forum, and your comment directed at Spence is a personal attack, which is against the rules on TS4M's.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Different strokes for different folks. Obviously, timesharing is not made for the OP. Good luck, man...unfortunately, we have been doing this TS way of traveling for over a decade, we don't know of any other way to achieve such value. We look forward to another decade of even more 'successful' TS vacationing such as our recent 8 night/9 days) Thanksgiving trip to Paris (France...NOT Texas), our two weeks Maui family trip this past speing break, or our two weeks July 4th trip to Southern California...Our 2010 vacations is almost fully booked, we now are planning 2011!

Where to in 2010 and where maybe for 2011?

For 2010, ski trip in Jan to Lake Tahoe with a few other families, a weekend getaway for Valentines to the Napa Valley wine country, a week at San Luis Bay Inn during spring break, 3 weeks trip back East to Williamsburg (hope Powhattan turns out "good") and Wash DC at the start of summer, a trip to Lake Tahoe to finish up the summer, and a Thanksgiving trip to Newport Beach (Southern Calif).

2011...Lake Tahoe will likely be in the picture (that area is in our "backyard")...possibly Kauai or Maui, maybe Disney World for the kids, maybe The Grand Canyon (Sedona or Vegas)... Still brainstorming at this point. Maybe we will just lay low LOL . It's a little tough to have to put young kids' school schedules in the mix.

We timeshared 14 weeks in 2009 and have booked 11 weeks in 2010. You can draw your own conclusions . . . but I BELIEVE in timesharing.
