If you are planning to visit Busch Gardens and Water Country (recommended if you gave kids), go for the Bounce Ticket. It's really a good deal. If you have any specific questions, let me know. We will be at Powhatan from June 20 - 28. Don't know if our paths will cross. Enjoy your stay!

A little off topic for this forum (SORRY) ...Most of the colonial area is free. You only need a paid pass to get into selected buildings.

I just re-read this b/c we are now finally one month away from our trip.

Question. Are the "Living History" events (e.g. Presentations of Patrick Henry, Benedict Arnold, and General Lafayette ) free ?

How interested will young kids (under 8yo) generally speaking, be interested in the paid sights at the Colonial Williamsburg ?

You will need to reserve free tickets to most of those events; You will need your day pass or Freedom Pass to show you are entitled to those tickets. Sometimes you will see those characters show up in the most unlikely places but you probably will want tickets. I think kids over 4 will be interested in most of the sights...lots of animals, music, a parade, food demos, construction. Kids are very encouraged to engage in almost all the activities.

Tell you, this pre-trip planning is one of the most confusing we've ever experienced, I think it's because of the multiple tickets available and the National Park versus State Park being responsible for different sites.

We are looking at purchasing the two following sets of tickets from:

When you say Freedom Pass , does the two tickets I mention mean the same thing?

I was under the impression the tickets I am looking at allows entry to buildings, but the CW area itself was $0 no charge, including watching the reinactments. Am I not understanding this correctly?

If I remember correctly, the Freedom Pass is only for Williamsburg. America's Historic Triangle also admits you into Yorktown and Jamestown. There are many free things to see in Colonial Williamsburg. The Governor's Palace and a few other places require a pass. How old are your children? You may enjoy eating at one of the taverns. I would recommend lunch since it is much less expensive. Reservations are first-come first-serve. Remember to take along water bottles. It gets very hot there in the summer.
My family has been going to Williamsburg every summer and loves it there. We are looking forward to our trip in a few weeks. DD#1 can't go this year because she took a full time job to help pay for college tuition. We'll miss her alot.

Kids will be 8.50 and 6.75 by next month.

I am thinking of the Chowning's Tavern . Looks interesting.

DW wants to see the insides of the Governors Palace and Capitol Bldg - she likes older architecture.

We are leaning towards the "America's Historic Triangle Pass" since this allows the Governors' Palace and well as the Yorktown and Jamestown. At CW, as I understand it, you must have some form of a paid pass to see the reinactments in the PM where the staff blockout areas.

Oh, we have decided to make this a 'historical vacation' and will pass on Busch Gardens and the water park. We can do that next time when the kids are older.

Winger - it sounds like the best pass for you is the Historic Triangle. There are a lot of activities at Jamestown and Yorktown for the kids. Keep in mind there are two places in Jamestown. The old city has a lot of history and a large (air conditioned!) building with artifacts from the archeological digs. Very interesting for adults, but it can be boring for kids after awhile. If you go here, try to go it early. Since the building is cool, it gets very crowded. One year there was actually a line outside waiting to get in. The new visitor's center at Jamestown leads you into an area with a replica of a fort and the three ships that carried settlers to the colonial area. The kids will absolutely love it here. The visitors center here also has a small cafeteria-style resturant and gift shop. The rrestaurant's a little pricey, but the building is air conditioned, so it's a grreat place to unwind and relax after being in the heat. There is a moderate number of seats for indoor dining, but these tables fill up fast around lunch time. When we go to Jamestown, we aim to hit the old site first thing, while it is still a little cool. We try to leave there just after lunch time and head to the new visitor's center complex. That gives us time to use the restrooms and get a snack at the restaurant. Have fun. There is so much to do in the three areas, so pace yourself, especially if you are thinking of coming back in a few years.

Winger, from the website for Americas Historic Triangle it looks like unlimimed admission to CW with the tickets you've chosen. I would assume you would have full and free access to all the sites, including the reinactments. We took those 3 parks a la carte, so I can't say for sure. I think you're all really going to love it. The Freedom Pass is a multi-day pass just for CW, so what you will have should be all-inclusive.
