I can especially see NOT discounting an availability in the discount period that pops up because of a cancellation that was under Reservation protection. This could very well be abused by members as points are very valuable... a member could get Reservation Protection for a very expensive reservation cancel it under 60days and rebook at half price. NOT good for the system. DRI is trying to make the system completely viable.... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

I am a little confused - as far as I am aware all accommodation is discounted by 50% if available for a week on normal check in days 59 days or less prior to departure - 30 days for none standard check in days, if you had accommodation already booked to get a 100% refund of points you would have to cancel 60 days before departure giving all members the opportunity to book next day at a discount of 50% - I do not feel that this is what the insurance of points protects (I may be wrong), I thought that it just refunded your points in full if you could not travel due to circumstances such as medical reasons. etc.

No a little naive, Resrvation Protection allows the member, for a price, the ability to cancel a reservation and receive all points back up to a day prior to check-in.... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

There are just so many points in the system and they should match the available full price reservations. To keep the system 'balanced,' DRI should add availability from their own supply that is not is THE Club (yet), they really must do this for discounts due to upgrades for elite members. Anyway, discounting throws the system off even though they are doing it to try to stimulate use of properties that would burn anyway because they were originally OVERvalued for the season.

Straight from DRI management, DRI managed resorts will be discounted 50%. Affiliated resorts, which have limited availability, may not always be discounted. It's rare that the affilitated resorts have availability at less than 60 days. Because of that, it's not usually noticed that there are some resorts that are not discounted.
If you see a DRI resort online that does not reflect the discount, I'd suggested calling reservations. Failing that I would E-mail management to see why a DRI resort isn't discounted. I think you'll discover this is much ado about nothing. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

At the DRI boards I one time asked whether the 50% reduction also applied to Club Select, and was assured that points requirements for Club Select also received the 50% discount at less than 60 days before check-in. When I've done occasional checking in Club Select, I've seen the discounts applied at less than 60 days.
It looks as if we will be doing some travel in June during which we may be able to make use of the 60-day discount window. I'll be checking it out.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”

When I spoke to DRI for clarity they said that my interpretation was correct that is that a 50% discount was offered on normal check days for 7 day or blocks of 7 days within 59 days of arrival but only 50% discount is offered on none standard check in days 30 days before arrival, however, their is one exception and that is affiliated resorts marked with limited availability - apparently the discounts offered at these resorts are discretionary and very limited and fall outside the above rules. Hope this helps resolve issues.

Of course, as everyone here has learned, should another management company take over, the rules can be enforced as they are written or, rules can be changed according to any mechanism in place to make such changes.
I've said it many times before. NEVER buy a resort based on the idea of anything except using that resort week. All the little extra's, like exchange power, are subject to change. In the end, the onlything you own is your deed or, in the case of the trust, whatever rights are granted in that trust. Since we've seen Carlton Court leave the resorts portfilio, with a trust based ownership, I'd assume that even the resorts in the trust can be change when certan circumstances are met.Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/
