A warning to DRI owners. When we checked in to Powhatan last week, we were given the "courtesy" of an express check-in. Turns out, it was simply a ploy to get us to attend the owner update. They even already had a time scheduled for us! They wanted us to come in the next day at lunch time, which we politely declined, especially given that it was in the middle of the day. The sales woman was very aggressive and we finally gave in to a morning meeting so that we wouldn't lose so much time during the day.
The update was also more aggressive than we've every experienced. We had to be extremely firm with our "no" to buying more points. To top it off, the "gift" turned out to only be a $50 VISA card, half of what we usually get - and definitely not worth the time and aggravation. When we attended a Wyndham update a few months ago, they gave us a $75.00 card, and we were only there for about 15 minutes.
We had friends with us this week and they were completely aghast at the sales tactics. These are people who came with us because they were interested in buying a TS (resale, of course). This aggressive sales approach totally turned them off and they have no interest in buying into DRI anymore.
So to all who are checking into a DRI resort this year, be prepared to say "no" to the owner update as soon as you check in. Next year, I'm going to wear a T-shirt that says - BUY RESALE - when I check in!
