  • DRI - Has anybody heard of this?

I spoke with a rep. yesterday from DRI and during our discussion, she mentioned that the California collection and the USA collection had been merged together and were now one. I have not seen anything about this on the Diamond website or here. Spence, have you heard of this?

I never did understand what the Calif collection was. I thought there was the Hawaii Collection and the (so called) Florida Collection. I own in Sedona and it is part of the Florida Collection.

So what the heck is the USA collection?

When we bought in the Calif. collection, we were told that the USA collection was everything else (US) except Hawaii. Of course, Polo Towers was listed in all of the collections. Perhaps that was because Diamond originally came in with only Polo, as far as I know. I suppose that it would be nice to have 13 month advantage at all of the other US collection resorts...

Naturally, it all has to do with sales. They can craft different trusts to include different sets of resorts, so that they can more closely match up the 13-month reservation window for the resorts the prospect is interested.

If they are primarly interested in the east coast resorts, DRI can offer the Florida collection. If the prospect wants California as well, they sell the US Collection. If Hawai'i is critical they sell the Hawai'i collection.

Just a bigger selection of clubs in the bag that the sales staff can use to complete the sale.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

        “You shouldn't wear that body.”

I haven't heard anything about this but, I'm not a trust owner so I wouldn't be a priority for notification. I did receive notification about a couple of new benefits available but, I have to be honest, I only skimmed them. Most of the time those benefits are lost on us as they're something we just don't use.

If the US & CA collections are being merged, I think that would be fantastic news for those in the CA collection.

I was once told by a DRI rep that the reason the CA collection exists is that California real estate laws do not allow the sale of out-of-state timeshares. So that would mean that if you are in California when you make the purchase, you must purchase into the CA collection. I honestly don't know if this is true or not. But if it is, that would mean that California law would have changed in order for DRI to do the merge.

I an a native Californian and still am here. So, does this mean my Nevada and Virgina timeshare purchases are invalid?

Well, I'm not any kind of expert in real estate. What the DRI rep told me may not be true. Did you buy those Nevada & Virginia timeshares while you were physically in California? If there is indeed a California law, I imagine it could only apply to what California licensed real estate agents can do within the state, or what a timeshare company located in California can sell within the state. The law cannot apply to what a resident of California is allowed to own.

                  It's All About Sales

It is all about sales. When the saleperson tried to get me to buy at KBC she brought up the California Collection so that I would get the 13 month home resort reservation advantage. When I mentioned the additional fees for owning in to collections at first she had that did not apply. However, I forced her to correct herself on that and then she made light of it as if it was chump change. In this day and age any amount of money is big money and we all know those fees only increase.
