Resort Reviews / Less than 7 day stay
Actually if you are planning on less than 7 days for a stay, you will spend far fewer point by staying on the weeknights (Sunday-Thursday nights). You can stay 5 nights sun-fri for 50% of the week rate. And if you book in the 30-day window it is another 50% discount.
The most luxurious resorts I have stayed at are Poipu Point in Hawaii and Lake Tahoe Resort. I think these are both former Embassy properties. I would also say that Polo Towers is one of the better resorts (if you stay at the right one, I can't remember whether Villas or Suites is nicer). I did not personally stay there, but my father-in-law was very impressed with Ka'anapali Beach Club in Hawaii.
I also think Sedona Summit and Scottsdale Villa Mirage are nice, although I would say that those are a little less luxurious than the others I mentioned.
Some resorts that I think have more of an "apartment" feel and are not so luxurious would be Scottsdale Links Resort, and Desert Paradise in Las Vegas.
Although I really enjoy The Pines at Sunriver, it has more of a summer camp feeling to it, and I wouldn't call it luxurious. Gatlinburg Town Village also had a similar outdoorsy atmosphere to it, and the layout reminded me of a motel.
I guess that depends on your standards. As some on this forum may know, my standards are pretty low since I don't mind laminate countertops and tube TVs. There's really not a DRI resort that I would refuse to visit. Especially since most of my vacation budget now goes straight to maintenance fees, I don't wish to pay for hotels if I don't have to. But considering the higher standards of most DRI owners, I think many would consider the following to be sub-par: Marquis Villas in Palm Springs, London Bridge in Lake Havasu, and San Luis Bay Inn in Avila Beach. Admittedly, it has been awhile since I have stayed at the last two so they may have been improved.
