Got the notice for the annual meeting for DRI owners. Any suggestions/recommendations for a PROXY pick? Thanks!

what chance does any candidate stand who doesn't have the trust vote?

No proxy means anything in my opinion. The Trust is controlled by the votes of the unsold inventory owned by DRI.

The board will have a non-DRI person on it, but it will be the person of DRI's choosing.

Right now I'm happy with the way DRI is managing my resorts. I allowed (for the first time) DRI to vote my ballot how they want.

How much unsold inventory is there in the Trusts? My understanding has been that DRI holds most of it's inventory outside of the trust, only transferring inventory into the trust as necessary to sustain some unsold inventory inside the trust to facilitate sales.

That way DRI gets to vote it's ownership units directly and maintain direct control of the resort instead of doing so indirectly through the trust.

you are exactly right, the trustee votes for the benefit of the majority of the Trust so i expect DRI keeps enough in the Trust to facilitate that also...

Whatever, it doesn't matter whether you're a sheep or not, it is set up to protect the developer, as one would expect, it's their business

Many of us who own timeshares in owner-run resorts know the big difference it can make when the board is not composed of developer puppets. Personally, I would never buy a timeshare where the developer controls the HOA board. At several of the resorts where I own or have owned, the owners had to club together to kick a developer out the door. Once a majority of the weeks are sold, it is no longer the developers business, but the members business.

Yep - you keep just enough inventory in the trust so that you have enough votes to dominate the trust. The rest of the inventory you keep outside the Trust so you can can vote that directly.

That gives them the maximum leverage from their ownership.

The other factor is that the Trustee for the trusts is generally the Trust department of a bank. I'm sure that it's a bank with whom they have a significant business relationship, so if a Trustee should actually think about acting independently, that person will surely be reminded by the bank of the significance of retaining DRI as a bank customer.

I figured it really doesn't make that much of a difference who I vote for. The comments here confirm that.
BTW - I noticed the return address is Kutztown, PA - just down the road from here. A little weird considering the meeting is held in Las Vegas. Do the votes get collected at various places and then sent to a central location?
