I was wondering how you all like the Village Mirage Scottsdale. I found a 2 bedroom 2 bath resale for 5,000 with the lock off option to rent for 2 weeks with paying 1 fee for the maintence of the property. With regards to the lock off unit is it a 1 bedroom+studio? This resort looks better than the Scottsdale Camelback.


I know with resales you are not part of Diamond Resorts. Is there a way to get Bonus time through Diamond Resorts or to get the membership transfered without additional fees? Also can they include the II membership in the annual fees?

Hello There,

I like Scottdale Village Mirage. It is not the fanciest of resorts, but it's comfortable and nice.

If you buy the two bedroom resale there will be no way around additional fees if you want to join the Club of DRI. The Club is a points program and gold membership of II is included. There would be no way around paying additional fees.

If you like the resort, then buy it if you would like. You can pay for your own II membership which is about $90/year and exchange it when you don't want to stay there. It will be much cheaper than buying all of those points from DRI.

Not ALL 2BRs at SVM are lockoff units (1BR4 plus Studio4.) There are some 2BR8 units, watch out if you really buy into that salesman stuff about one fee, what's the big deal - at the end of the day it's one fee for the two units, so what?

Decent resort but I'd never pay $5,000 on the resale market. Personally, I wouldn't go higher than $500 and, you'd be pushing it to get me to pay that much. With the current market for resale weeks my gut feeling is you should be able to easily get a 2 bedroom at this resort for less than $1,000 and, with a little shopping and/or watching E-bay, maybe even $1.

DRI has improved the quality of the old Sunterra resorts but, the price of those improvements has been on the shoulders of the owners. MF's that have risen quickly have caused many owners to want to dumpt their weeks at any price. When that happens, supply is increased past the demand and prices fall accordingly. Some owners may be desperate enough to simply give their weeks away. Be patient and keep looking.

imho $5000 is WAY overpriced. We toured there when they were being developed by Sunterra. Nice units then but they did get a bit rundown. Not sure how far along DRI is with bringing them back to a premier type TS.

As an aside we like Camelback and they seem to be holding their resale better than most. Not as plush as some but very comfortable.

Sorry I meant to say I found the timeshare for 500 dollars + 300 closing costs. The maintence fee is 1000 per year. I think this is a hood deal for a 2 bedroom on resale. How do I become members of the Diamond Club? I want to take full advantage of bonus time and am thinking to get Ii

Also can I use the day use here as well?

Contact Diamond and tell them what you want to join The Club. They charge a hefty initial fee and then yearly dues as well. Also they will probably try to sell you more points. If you can access the Diamond website on the bottom of the page after you log in go to the forums and look at the forum on joining the club.

In the past, they'd allow you to join by paying a joiner fee of $2,995. I haven't heard of anyone joining by paying that fee for some time now.

I would expect them to ask you to purchase a point package from them that's likely to run in the $5,000 (or higher) range. They'll probably also offer to convert you deeded week purchased resale into trust points. Either way, the only thing they sell now are trust points so, you'll end up with trust points, a trust management fee and a THE Club dues fee on top of your MF's.

You'll need to weigh you options carefully as to the worth of joining THE Club vs just owning a deeded week and paying for I.I. membership and I.I. exchange fee's.

We belong to THE Club because our two units are worth a lot of points in THE Club. The flexiblity and how we use those points more than covers the additional cost of THE Club dues for us. I enjoy being able to search and make exchanges online. I can also pay our MF's monthly at my leasure and, I can adjust how much I'm paying each month to fit out current financial situation. So THE Club works very well for us.
