  • Big Takeover Announcement?

So, over a Spring Break stay at SLBI, we attended an owners update. The rep stated that within a week or so we should hear of a big announcement which will "make the Sunterra buyout look like nothing." Anyone know what he was referring to or whether I somehow missed the big announcement during the past two weeks?

    Really?

This is interesting? We may be getting some more options?

yes I think that was 1 of the selling points (no pun intended), that we will have more options for places to go.

Yesterday Sunterra, today another big takeover...

TOMORROW THE WORLD !!!! Mmoowhaaa ha haa haa! (Boris Karloff/mad scientist laugh )

It looks the big evil DRI is moving one step closer to the world domination so many seem to fear.

As a Diamond member, I can't wait to see what new properties will be added.

I keep wonder, WHAT buyout could be bigger than Sunterra? The way I understand, Sunterra (property-wise) was pretty big. I mean, is it Marriott? Hyatt? Wyndham Worldmark?

Does anyone know what the size of the Sunterra acquisition actually was? It was in or near bankruptcy so it was probably at a discount to book.

I would not expect it to be Marriot - too much family history and pride. I think they also have many members upset with their recent attempt in moving to points... could it be going that badly?

Wyndham however, (ticker WYN) did have some interesting price action this week just after releasing another quarter of disappointing earnings. Actually, their stock has been on quite a ride...

They have a $7 billion market cap, but they could decide to sell off some of the resort portfolio if that is where some of the drag on earnings has been? Part of the Hyatt portfolio would be a coup! Surely someone on this forum knows something more.

At an update a few months back the sales rep insinuated something similar. I hope it is not a tactic to get a sale. More choices would be nice. More on the east coast (non Florida) and the northeast would be nice. Destinations other than Arizona would be refreshing as well.

Well, since the session I attended was an "Owner's Update", I do fully expect the information he was telling me were true. Why would a Diamond Resorts International sales rep would lie to an owner at an Owner's Update?

Side note - he did try selling more points, which we nicely declined of course.

I think their sense of time is off somewhat. As I wrote earlier I was given the same type of information and the timing we were told was also a week or two and three months later nothing.

An ''owners update'' at any resort is nothing but a sales pitch and the person you were talking to was a timeshare sales weasel. Since when did timeshare sales weasels ever tell the truth about anything? The best way to tell if they are lying is to look to see if their lips and moving.

I did not know that a t/s sale person would tell the untrue to make a sell.

I certainly hope not. I do not see that being good for us. With BG stock rising one wonders why they would choose to do it now.

I would hate to see how much the stock would go up if they had good earnings! I think you are off on calling them dissapointing I listened to the earnings call, read the report and it is overall very good and positive. Analysts seem to love them right now.
