  • Has Anyone Stayed at the Sunterra in London?

I am in the process of planning a trip to Europe for Sept. 08. I would like to include a week in London, and noticed that Sunterra is the only London resort listed in II.

Has anyone ever stayed there? And, does anyone have any idea how difficult it would be to snag a week....preferably a 2 bdrm.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I put my Uncle up there on an RCI exchange back when Sunterra was with RCI. It costs way too many points for me to be able to afford with SunOptions.

      Angela,

You're talking about Carlton Court right? I stayed there in July a few years back, in a one br. It was comfy for one person. Bed was a bit hard. Their lift was out of operation end of the week so I had to handle my luggage down the stairs myself. (At least it was working when I checked in so I didn't have to haul it upstairs, LOL).

The "resort" is more like a boutique hotel. It's in the Maida Vale suburb north of London. There are buses that stop right in front, and the walk to the tube station is about a 10-15 min brisk walk (I only took it once, and I preferred buses to see it all.)

I would definitely stay there again. But I must say, when I booked it seemed to be a kind of bulkspacebanking...so I got lucky to get a one br in July. I only see that resort very sporadically. You can keep looking for it with Marriott but they might block it due to quality control issues. Foxrun is what I used to get in when I did luck out.

      ttyl,

      Carol

My wife and I stayed there a couple of years ago in February. As a previous poster stated, it is small and hotel like. The rooms were adequate. It was clean and the staff was friendly. The lift worked, and my bed was not hard. If you have a car, there is a car park.

There is a lot of traffic on the street in front of the resort, and it is somewhat noisy, even with the windows closed. I would recommend earplugs if your room is on the front and you have a problem sleeping. It is probably not in the most upscale area of London, but I never felt unsafe. However, if you walk a few blocks to the east, you get into St. John's Wood and you can go by the old Beatles Apple Records studio on Abbey Road.

It is not in the most central location for sightseeing, but the price is right compared to the cost of other London lodging options. I found my off season week several months in advance. I think they bulk bank a few times per year. I think the 2 BR units are hard to come by.

It's not an upscale neighborhood, but it's a very interesting one. I found within easy walking distance several good restaurants, including Thai and Indian. Also a good pub two blocks away. About 8 blocks away is a shopping area with stores like shoe stores (my shoes crapped out so I had to buy). Also a very nice theater that was started by actress Emma Thompson...they have both live theater and shows (I saw a magician, a British David Copperfield type) and good art house type movies (I saw "Story of the Weeping Camel" there).

I took buses and the tube after dark on my various nights out at theaters and never felt unsafe as a woman traveling solo. I would definitely stay there again, despite the dodgy beds.
