  • Recent Conversion Experience

I was at the sales office in WBurg, VA this week and we purchased into THE Club.

Here is my experience and I want to see if anyone has similar experience.

We had a fixed week from Powhatan that was worth 11K pts. We converted it to points but they required that we bought more club points to convert it. They said there was an additional process to make the conversion which required that they fax a request to corp. The request had to have some plea from the regional sales director to get it to go through.

After the fact, I was told I could have purchased 3K pts to get the conversion thru and that any future conversions of resale would require a purchase of 2K pts. per conversion.

What I was offered and did buy was a 4K pts contract with the conversion of my 11K (fixed wk) for $20,128 but since I was already an owner with DRI they went from a graduated scale chart that at my final point of 15K points would be $2.49 / pt. for a total of $9960. This brings my cost of ownership on the 15K pts down to 82.6 cents.

If I get another resale fixed week that is worth 13K pts the price to purchase an additional 2K to get me to Gold Elite status would be $1.84 / pt. or a total of $3680.

Can any of you comment on this offer and whether you believe it is a good price and whether you feel it could have been better in any way? I do have a few more days to recind so please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanxxx, Jimbo

I was at the Williamsburg Sales Center today, I wish I'd seen your post prior to going. I spoke with the Director of Sales who met me at reception and visited, then I spoke with the Sales Manager for quite a while. Your experience is probably par for the course, they claim to be tailoring each sales presentation for the customer vice for the company, meaning they look at your individual situation as to what you already own and work with you on that instead of just hitting you with the 'standard' pirth that would try to sell you a $20K - $40K contract. I will say that this is the first time in 9 years I was greeted and recognized prior to being sat down and having to wait 20+ minutes for them to figure out who I was.

$2.50/pt for a contract that converts you is about standard. They had told me in the past that they were going away from their magic graduated chart from which they once offered me points at $1.07. I guess they haven't.

      Enjoy your Club membership!

DOS was young, energetic, and very sharp
SM was older, sharp, and quite nice
They claimed that this weekend was the biggest sales weekend of the year, that the resorts were full. I arrived at 1130 after the first wave, DOS claimed that they had sold 50% of that wave and their were champagne bottles all around to show for it.

      • Thanxxx for confirming for me

        Spence,

As always it is hats off to you. Thanxxx for listening to my deal and confirming my thought that I was right on par. I wasn't sure when I got the deal but realizing that I would have 7 days to rescind, I thought I'd give it try.

I am big fan of points as I hate having to spend an entire week everywhere. If I want to spend 10 days or 5 days I can now easily do so.

I think I will look for another property to convert. Maybe a summer GS 4 BR.

Did you talk with them about Club Select?? In Kaua`i we were told that after this October an ownership put into Club Select could be deposited for points a total of five times. After that the unit would not be eligible for Club Select unless another purchase from DRI was made.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”

            Steve,

I did discuss Club Select and they did qualify my Marriott Kauai Beach Club for 6500 pts. They did not, though, tell me about any restrictions of 5 deposits and in reading the material (i.e. fine print) I did not see such a restriction.

I will call and ask and get back to you. I think in your other post you identified that it was for any purchase / conversion after Oct 2008. That should not impact me...

            Thanxxx, Jim

            • DRI point chart?

I have spent a lot of time here reading the forum. I am interested in buying resale points and I am learning alot by reading your forum, but I'm still a bit confused.. If I should buy points (that are listed as club points) but I have no affilation with DRI it sounds like I can only use them in certain locations. I believe these points are Polo Vegas.
Is there a chart that helps me understand what I can do with the points (in the limited resorts) so I have a better idea of how they can be used and at what times point prices are higher than others when exchanging them for lodging.

Thank you for any help and suggestions you can offer

I am not an expert and can't tell you what you're looking at in the way of resales. If you are looking at the most common Trust, when you buy it you can book at the 19 Trust resorts that are listed in one of the stickies above.

Also in a sticky above is a very nice offer from someone who has the points catalog electronically and has offered to share it.

                • I guess I'm not as smart as I thought I was. I looked through stickies but couldn't seem to locate one with a catalog.
I really did try to look on my own before writing again.
Also the points I had seen (and mentioned in my post here) were for POLO in Vegas which I noticed is not on a list that someone showed in one of the forums of the 19 properties.

you didn't pick up on it? I'll try to change it to make it more clear.

I know you mentioned Polo, but you still haven't told us enough to know what you're looking at. Polo is a new addition to both the DRUSC and the Hawaii Trust, I think.

So does this mean that the info from August that DRI was not going to allow anyone to bring any resale properties into the club isn't true?

Is DRI still following the "pre August" policy? Which was:
-Buy more points (atleast 2K - 3K more) and DRI will allow resale purchased weeks to be converted into "club" week/pts? OR
-Pay ~$3000, and DRI will allow resale purchased weeks to be converted into "club" week/pts?
                          TIA

Nothing has changed, DRI like Sunterra tries to make the resale arena as nebulous as possible. The "info from August" was from a saleswoman.

The genral info in this thread is still valid but as always, it,s always a moving target, the slaesman will tell you that you have to buy more points, but you do not.
