M/F for sunoptions resales

I wanted to update everyone on the costs and usage of sunoptions purchased through resale.
I purchased 4000 sunoptions from a realtor recently. I just received my maintenance fees from Sunterra for these sunoptions. I was charged an assessment fee of $119 and a Club fee of $101 plus the .073 fee per point $292 for the 4000 sunoptions. This totaled $512. I was not given any reduction in M/F because I was already a member of Club Sunterra. The 4000 sunoptions were set up in a separate acoount and can not be used in conjuction with my Club Sunterra sunoptions. The 4000 sunoptions can only be used in the Florida Trust properties. They also can not be used to exchange under II.
I hope this information will be useful to anyone considering purchasing resale sunoptions.

Another reason not to buy Sunterra. Too bad

Can you "rent" yourself the options to be used with the other account <g>? Talk about making a resale worthless...

Thanks for the breakdown, this is exactly what I've come to expect, although I'd not had the news before that an account set up this way could not trade their points with II. Already being a member of Club Sunterra has no bearing on your 'new' resale purchase unless you pay to have the new purchase brought into the full Club Sunterra. Newest info is that Corporate will no longer deal with this as the Sales arm of the company has run roughshod over this and you must deal with a Sales Center and dicker with them, see applicable sticky.

Sunterra does not prop up the resales with ROFR like Marriott does, making them very hard for the original (developer) purchaser to get any (significant) money back. Then to get full use of your resale deed or Trust purchase you must buy more points from the developer. It would be interesting if an analysis could be done on wheter the developer fares better under the Marriott model or the Sunterra model. We'll never see it. Obviously, the original (developer) purchaser fares better under the Marriott model when they go to sell.

How about multiple resales?

I have another question. What if one buys two or more Sunterra SunOptions resales? Do you pay the club due once or one for each individual contract? Can you combine the Options together?

Resale sunoptions

I can only relay to you what I was told by Sunterra customer service supervisors. Each resale has it own contract and therefore has to pay separate club dues. Also, the resale points can only be used at the 19 Florida trust properties.
The contracts can be rolled into a Club Sunterra contract for $2995. However, Sunterra requires that you purchase more points from them to do this. You usually have to buy at least another 2000 points. The total cost is somewhere between $5000 and $6000. Once all the points are in Club Sunterra, they can be used at any of the 100 or so Club Sunterra resorts and can be exchanged with II. Also, there is only one Club fee to pay.

I've seen most people be able to add multiple resale contracts at a time for the one purchase of 2000 SunOptions for $5000 that is mentioned below.
