Just wanted to check in with some Sunterra experts concerning a recent purchase and then rescission saga.
I recently purchased 5,000 Sunterra SunOptions from the developer at The Ridge on the Green in Sedona, AZ.
The major thing that was appealing about the sales pitch was certainly not the price....I know we overpaid somewhat for that. It was the fact that they would allow my other TS (A Red 2BR Gold Crown in South Africa), be included each year in their system for 8,500 points. The cost would be a flat $99 each year when I made the reservation in Sunterra's name and filled out the paperwork.
The problem I ran into was that when I examined the fine print, it indicated our deposit could be re-evaluated and then essentially granted fewer points than what were promised after it was deposited. At the resort, that was not mentioned....only that if my other TS lost GC status, then they could refuse to accept it. That is certainly fair. My concern was that they could not give me the full 8,500 points for my other resort and turn a pretty good deal into a real stinker.
I rescinded the contract and got a call from a Customer Care Representative today....he indicated that we had won a drawing from among all of the new TS owners this week with Sunterra and were entitled to a free week along with RT airfare on American anywhere in the continental US. The free week was anywhere in the world (I assume within the Sunterra system). He indicates this is a $4,000 value. I then tell him that we have rescinded the contract and he says that makes sense, because he couldn't see our membership anymore on-line.
I tell him our reservations concerning the revaluation of our SA TS and the points they will give. He indicates that unless it loses GC status, then they under no circumstances will revalue it less than the 8,500. He says that real-estate licenses would be on the line over a mis-representation like that and gives his guarantee that our TS will be valued at 8,500 when we convert it.
Long story short....I need some advice. I've got one day to decide if I should let the rescission stand. I need to call him back to indicate what we'd like to do. If he's not lying and we get the full 8,500 then the deal is a good one. That is sweetened by the airfare and free week. Without the 8,500 the deal is bad because of the high cost.
Any feedback would be gratefully accepted.
