Misiones Sunterra Conversion

Hello everyone,

New to this forum, just found it.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the conversion of Misiones in Cabo San Lucas to a Sunterra property. Sunterra purchased Misiones in December 2005 and is currently expanding and improving the property.

I am an owner at Misiones and information is vague. We were told that Sunterra is coming up with an opportunity for Misiones Members to "Have A One Time Opportunity to Convert Their Misiones Membership to a Perpetual Sunterra Membership".

So far we have nothing official from Sunterra, other than we now pay our maintenance fee to Sunterra.

Any infor greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have any specific, maybe someome else has some info, but I have been told that Misiones would be available for booking starting in the summertime but I've seen nothing further.

You need to do your homework and read everything in this forum so that when the offer for conversion comes you will know how it compares to what other people at other Sunterra resorts are receiving.

A one time offer may be a better deal, but you should always be able to convert in the future at whatever the prevailing rates are. When my resort came into the Club the one time offer was a $1000 off the $2995 conversion fee, that was about nine years ago.

Sunterra and Misiones deal off

Thank you for the reply. Since I posted my original question two things occurred.

First we were invited to a Sunterra meeting to “update our Sunterra family on all the new and exciting additional member benefits now offered by Club Sunterra”

Ok, so my wife and I go, realizing that it well be a typical “high pressure sales presentation”, why else did they offer a $100 VISA card for coming. Bottom line, after two hours of “you know what” was an opportunity to convert our existing 6500pts (for the Misiones property, not sure how that was valued at 6500, but it was) and the “one time opportunity" to purchase an additional 2500pts for $16,450, with a "Corp Trust Promo discount of $9,775. Making our total cost $6,675 for 9,000 pts.

We declined the offer and were told by our sales gal that she was very surprised. We are the first to ever decline such an offer and that we would never have such an opportunity again.

Thankfully we declined! Sunterra and Misiones just announced that the sale is off!!!

This morning I looked at Misiones owners web blog Home Page Resort Representatives and read that "Sunterra has left Misiones del Cabo". The sales contract between Misiones de Baja California and Sunterra was rescinded and money was returned. The decision was made by Sunterra to rescend the sales contract due to events happening within that company making withdrawal their best option. Sunterra and Misiones de Baja California are working together to make this change as smooth as possible with no disruption to Misiones members.”

Thanks again for the information provided. I’m pleased I found this forum and will continue to participate.

Regarding Misiones and Sunterra, I guess we wait till the dust settles to see what happens next.

Sounds as if Sunterra terminated the purchase of Missiones because of the Sunterra buyout by Diamond Resorts.

Regarding units already converted to Sunterra, Sunterra could easily do nothing with those units - i.e., those owners would then remain linked with Sunterra. By remaining within Sunterra, those owners reservation rights would be handled by Sunterra instead of the owners.

Those owners would receive their allotted Sunterra points if they elected to travel within the Sunterra system, or they could return to Missiones by booking a return through Sunterra. If they did not take advantage of their home resort reservation preference period, their usage right at Missionoes would be available to other Club Sunterra owners.

Sunterra has several resorts where ownership includes both converted and unconverted ownerships. They could handle Missiones exactly the same as they handle those other resorts.

It's really too bad that the 'sale' has been terminated, I was looking forward to a Cabo adventure. Thanks for letting us know.
