Six little Indian Runner Ducks have taken up residence in the pond behind the Kitchen at Powhatan Restaurant. These little fellows typically run from here to there as a group and can be identified by the brown coloring around their eyes. Please be considerate of our wildlife and drive carefully to avoid injuring any of the birds or animals who venture into the street. Also, it is healthier for the birds and safer for humans not to feed the wildlife “people food”.

                  The Grille

The Powhatan Grille has undergone an amazing transformation with a new look, new menu and new attitude. Under the direction of Julia Fitchett, Food and Beverage Manager and Chef de Cuisine of the Kitchen Restaurant, the Grille has developed a reputation for consistently great food and excellent service.

Forest green table linens now dress the tables and the outdated window treatments are a thing of the past. A variety of pictures and accessories create vignettes and define space. Comfortable seating provides a cozy place to watch the game on the big screen plasma TV, and enjoy a drink from the bar or a snack from the selection of tasty appetizers. Dividing the restaurant seating is the breakfast buffet, highlighted by a charming green canopied cart. Several bistro style tables are planned for the Grille ramp so that guests may enjoy a drink or appetizer out of doors.

The new menu is fresh and appealing. Late risers can rest assured that breakfast will be waiting for them at the Grille, no matter how late they sleep. If one misses the daily breakfast buffet, the a la carte breakfast menu will surely fill the bill. A variety of sandwiches and lighter fare highlight the lunch menu with tender steaks, mouthwatering pasta, fresh seafood, and creative chicken dishes accompany a selection of hearty soups and crispy salads on our dinner menu. A selection of delectable desserts put the finishing touch on any meal. Our menu items have taken on a local identity, not only in name but also with fresh seasonal ingredients grown in Virginia.

Entertainment is also on the menu. Our Monday orientations with “Martha Washington” and Sylvia Tabb Lee offer unique perspectives on the area and the wealth of activities and opportunities both on and off the resort. We are also planning a variety of musical entertainment to entice you to return to the Grille for your late night enjoyment.

All the changes are not in the front of the house, however. A state of the art coffee machine brews a continuous supply of fresh Columbian coffee. The service area has been upgraded to provide faster and more efficient beverage service, and additional kitchen help and services will keep the wait time to a minimum.

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a new and improved Powhatan Grille during your next visit. For our local owners, we welcome your business, not only at the locally acclaimed Kitchen at Powhatan, but also your Powhatan Grille, any day of the week.

                    Hi Spence,
I have always really enjoyed Powhatan Plantation. The grounds are GORGEOUS! and I could spend hours walking around them especially in the evening and early morning. We have stayed at most of the other Williamsburg resorts including the Marriott, but it's Powhatan that I enjoy the most because of the grounds and the animals.

Yeah love Powhatan I will be there in July, maybe it's just me but I prefer Powhatan to Greensprings hands down seems more in tune with the whole willaimsburg atmosphere, I guess if you are a heavy golfer that would make a difference however.

On a side note it's interesting to note that nowhere did we hear about the infamous water park that was rumoured to be coming to powhatan. That rumour seemed false from the start with water country usa already well established in williamsburg, and powhatan having such an old world feel to the grounds.

The water park rumor was not on the scale of WC-USA, Great Wolf Lodge, or even what is comtemplated at Colonial Crossing. It is or was to be a water feature.

                          Mace

I was at Greensprings earlier this month and Powhatan over the Memorial day weekend and I too like Powhatan more.

One of the ducks was injured, treated by a vet and can't walk so it's been hiding in the bushes behind the store and the staff have been caring for it and feeding it.

I talked to Randy on Friday monring and he told me the indoor pool is closing for resurfacing and a cleaning. He told me the pool isn't really been dirty this past year or 2 but rather it just looks like it is, and the the resurfacing and cleaning prove it.

Randy also told me the new spa is doing very well and the PPOA is getting 20% of the profits which totaled $1400 in April. Randy feels they might be able to give the entire downstairs a facelift if the spa continues to make that kind of money.

I was much happier with the overall feel of the resort. Maybe things are coming around for Powhatan.

The news sounds positive I know my fiance is excited about the spa, I'm told the construction and renovation will be ending in a couple of years it will be interesting to see if the resort regains a gold crown status or not.

Look more like December 2007 for a completion date.
