  • Grand Beach vs. Cypress Pointe

Well, wife and a I are at a loss on a plan of action. We are planning a trip to Orlando for two weeks (May or June). We're not sure if any friends may tag along as of yet, so once that question is answered...what does everyone reccomend?

    Scenario 1
Assuming No tag alongs, or last minute visitors for no longer than a week.
One bedroom: Cypress Pointe or Grand Beach?

    Scenario 2
    Tag alongs confirmed.
Two Bedroom (borrowing points): Cypress Pointe or Grand Beach:

Either should be fine, I own both and would probably stay at Cypress Pointe or Cypress Pointe Grandvillas if I were going.

I haven't seen the one bedroom at Grand Beach. I do think you need to be carefull about a one bedroom at Cypress Point. I think it depends on which section that you are in. We were there for New years this past year and we brought friends. We were in a 3 bedroom lock out which we thought was a 1 br and a 2 br. Well, the 1 br portion was very small. This was the section near the volcano pool. Our guests were disappointed. it did work out for us because we were able to share the whole 3 bedroom, but if they had come by themselves, they would have been really upset. We had both been on the other side of the developement and were basing our views of the one bedroom on those ones. We were told they were very very different.

Oh, I remember now, there was no door on the commode in their 1 bedroom portion. it was really weird.

Just something to consider if bring friends.

        Easy to tell

If you get a 1 bedroom Cypress Pointe by exchange it will be CPGV (Phase 2) as no exchange company trades the CPR 1 bedroom lock off. They are rented privately but usually those owners are careful to explain they are a separate master bedroom with a private entrance , connecting entrance to the 2 bedroom side, a private balcony, bath an have a mini-refrigerator, microwave but no stove or dishwasher. They do have a 32" tv and dvd so as a private, two person retreat they are great.

The CPGV 1 bedroom lock off has the balcony, a queen (vs king at CPR) bed, a mini- kitchen and a sleep sofa. Still one semi-private bath and one tv so it is best suited to a family with one or two kids not 4 adults unless you are REALLY close. They are found for rent and exchange.

I would consider both Cypress Pointe and Grand beach are too similar. Both their one bedroom are too small to accommodate more than two. Both their two bedroom are spacious enough for a regular family.

I would consider Cypress Pointe ground and facilities better than Grand Beach. Being newer, Grand Beach has better interior.

Overall, I like Cypress Pointe better, but try to avoid their one bedroom.

            Thanks for the input!

As of now (and will be 95% sure after this weekend), a one bedroom may be on the horizon. We're not going to book a two bedroom (thus borrow points and pay for the maintenance fee's for the borrowed points) if there are no confirmations of anyone willing to come along.

We searched the net and found the one bedroom plan for Cypress Pointe Grand Villas (which is listed available for Sunterra). Whoah! Thats pretty small.

The one bedroom at Grand Beach looks comparable to the Sunterra's Lake Tahoe resort, and that was fine for us. We will probally end up booking the room at the end of the month (have to see how some family events playing out next year).

We're planning to do the whole Disney, Universal, Sea World and Busch Gardens Marathon in the two weeks we're there (rest? whats that?). Any reccomendations?

I Like Grand Beach Better.... Both Are On 535 Lake Buena Vista Cypress Is Behind A Strip Mall With A Tony Romas, Steak And Shake, Chilis, WalGreens, Joe Crab Shack etc..... Grand Beach Is Less Than 5 Minutes Away On The Oposite Side Of I-4.

I Like The Decore At Grand Beach, We Are More Universal People Than Disney And I-4 West Is Just A Little Easier To Get On From Grand Beach Than Cypress Pointe. John Tyler Parkway And I Drive Are Closer To Grand Beach.

Both Resorts Are Nice And I Don't Think You'll Go Wrong With Either.

                Just one more question...

We didn't consider Sunterra's third resort in the area, the Polynesian. Just curious, has anyone been there? And how does it compare to the other two?

I take it you haven't used the "secret" back way to Universal from CP. Go out to Lake St, turn left on to Palm Parkway which becomes Turkey Lake Rd and leads directly to Universal. 10 minutes tops. The traffic around Grand Beach has become a nightmare due to the Outlet Mall & the exit from I-4.

As for the two resorts I admit I'm biased but we prefer CP =, either phase, over Grand Beach both for the units and the easy (walking) access to so many services at CP. You have to drive to everything from GB.

Driving time cut more than in half to Universal.
