  • Trading from Club Sunterra to RCI

I know I can trade from Club Sunterra to SFX by making a club reservation and then giving that week to SFX as a deposit.

Can I do the same with RCI?

I want to get a 2008 2BR WK52 beginning Dec27 at Vacation Village in the Berkshires. It only trades with RCI.

Anyone had any experience doing this they'd like to share?

    Thanks!!!

Those weeks have been in the system for a LONG TIME. Only a very, very strong trader will pull the 2BDRMs for your check-in date. So whatever you are planning of depositing better be very very good.

For you to be able to deposit with RCI, your 'resort' has to be affiliated with RCI. As a Club member your reserved week is a Club reservation and Club Sunterra is not affiliated with RCI. If you are able to deposit a Club reservation for a resort that is affiliated with RCI, I would be surprised as there is bad blood between RCI and Sunterra... Club Sunterra used to be affiliated with RCI but they jumped ship in 2002 using some legal finagling that had to do with their Chap11 BK filing.

Thats a good question. There aren't many resorts in RCI that I would like to trade into, however, there are a few out there I would very much like to have a shot at. Its too bad II and RCI don't offer an option to people to join thier respective memberships when the resort you own at affiliates with the respective competition.

Let's assume for the moment that the resort is affiliated with RCI and that you are an RCI member. Thus, what you are going to try to accomplish is to make a deposit into your member account at RCI of a Club Sunterra week reserved in your name at a resort that is affiliated with RCI.

Here's what I think is going to happen. When RCI calls the resort to confirm ownership of the week, the resort will tell them that the week is not reserved in your name; rather it is reserved by Club Sunterra. RCI will then refuse the deposit.

          *****

If you think about it, that makes sense and is really the only way it can work with a proper inventory control system.

When you joined Club Sunterra, you agreed to give your usage rights to Club Sunterra. As far as the resort is concerned, you don't have usage rights any longer; Club Sunterra does. In making and processing reservations, the resort Club Sunterra as the entity making reservations, not the owner.

The analogy would be with an individual who owned, say, 100 weeks at a resort, then regularly rented those weeks out to individuals. Even though the owner might put the individual renters name on the reservation request, the resort still recognizes the owner as the responsible person for the week.

Same thing with Club Sunterra. Club Sunterra is recognized as the owner of the weeks; the person will actually occupy the unit is recognized as using the unit only with Club Sunterra's permission.

          +++++++

Turn it around another way. If a person were to deposit a week with RCI, what would stop an unscrupulous (or forgetful) person from also surrendering their Club Sunterra reservation, reclaiming the SunOptions, and making other reservations? RCI would have no way of knowing that the reservation had been canceled, and Club Sunterra would have no way of knowing that the person had committed the week somewhere else.

The only way that property inventory control can be maintained is for Club Sunterra to continue to be recognized as the owner of the unit. not the individual Club member.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”

Sunterra to RCI can be done

Steve has most of it right but there is one big loophole. If the resort in question was RCI (and most if not all Sunterra were) then you can still deposit weeks with RCI. If RPM (Sunterra) is the management then, as he says, most likely RCI will be given a negative when they go to verify the reservation for deposit. But if the resort is in another management system then once you have your week if use assigned, and if it's your home resort - not just any resort in the Club system - they should verify you as an owner with that week reserved. Deposit good.

My experience is with Powhatan and Greensprings. Weeks owners there can deposit with RCI but Club members cannot.

                Do Owners Ever Trade??

Is there any vehicle or method for trading directly with an RCI member??

I am willing to reserve and trade probably any Club Sunterra 2BR week in 2008 that I can get (within reason according to points) for the 2008 Wk 52 Vacation Village in the Bekshires beginning 12/26 or 27.

It's got nothing to do with trading with an 'RCI' member... if you want to trade with an owner there you need to contact an owner there. You can try to do that by using the direct exchange board on TUG or maybe Redweek... or look for someone renting there and offer them a trade, someone else may have other ideas for you.

                    Direct Exchange - TST

Time Sharing Today has a direct exchange process. You list your week and identify what you want in exchange.

                    Just another avenue to consider...
