  • Powhatan Plantation Resort Concierge

I got a call today about an upcoming reservation for Labor Day weekend. It was the 'Concierge' at Powhatan wanting to get my welcome packet in order to help speed up my check-in. Oh wonderful. What other services do you provide to me and my guests??

The concierge is the same person who sits at the little table in the lobby. After you stand in the check-in line and get your keys and welcome packet, you are referred to that little table for your parking pass. The people who give you the keys and welcome packet at the front desk work for resort manager. The 'Concierge' at that little table who gives you your parking pass works for Sales.

The 'Concierge' couldn't tell me what she could do for me except to schedule my 'update' and would I like 1000 SunOptions or a $100 gas card.

so basically, they are getting you ready to sit through another sales presentation?

are you serious? is that what I have to look forward to?

I was at Powhatan earlier this summer. After we got the keys, we stopped by the desk to get our parking pass. They asked us if we wanted to attend a presentation; we said no; that was it and we were on our way with our parking pass. No pressure whatsoever!

I think you are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill here.

The 'new' thing here is that someone who call themselves a Concierge calls ahead.

I don't thing Timeshare Tours is what Webster's had in mind.

They have always hit you up when they gave you a parking pass.

No, I'm not. They are calling my home and misrepresenting themselves as a Concierge.

I agree ! I don't mind when they tell me at the desk that I can go over and get my "welcome package" ,because for that I have an option. To hold my parking pass hostage until I listen to their pitch is a bit much, IMHO. As for the calls at home, unfortunately that may be the wave of the future as I have had that happen more than once in recent times at other resorts.

              Welcome to DRI!

I've had someone call us a week ahead when staying at either Polo Towers or at Marriott's Grand Chateau (shared the same sales staff) ever since we owned there. It's been the same lady these last several years and she knows us pretty well. Since we've purchased an upgrade (Suites to Villa's) and an EOY Marriott Grand Chateau unit off of these owner update tours she sort of has a reason to remember and like us.

I hand't thought about it but I suppose every time we now stay at a DRI/Sunterra resort that is in active sales I can expect this call. At Polo Towers it's always been the conceirge that gave us our "welcome" packet. However, the conceirge at Polo Towers could and would help you with reservations and/or recomendations for shows, restaurants and tours. Perhaps as time goes by other Sunterra resorts will introduce real conceirge's that do more than try to sign you up for a sales tour.

At least at MGC (our favorite LV location) there is no parking pass - just leave the car at the front door!

Ahhhh yes, the difference between DRI and Marriott in Vegas.....at least for now. While there is a connection between the two (MGC was initially DRI's project) it's still a Marriott branded property , run like a Marriott branded property , furnished like a Marriott branded property , maintained like a Marriott branded property and has the maintenance fee's of a Marriott branded property
