  • DRI/Sunterra Webres and I.I. online exchange?

Club Sun finally got my account set up online but, at this point when I go to I.I. to check out exchange power, all I'm seeing is the same listing for my Polo Towers units that's always been there.

At this point I'm assuming that it will take a little longer for Club Sun to get things set up with I.I. so that I can shop exchanges using my Club Sun points or is that an incorrect assumption? For online exchanging how should my Club Sun points show up on the Intevalworld.com web site?

As far as internal exchanges go I'm reasonably happy with what availability I see for Hawaii and St. Maartin. I'm a little disappointed in Scotland as nothing shows for availability, even in the off season month of March. It also appears that the Plantation a Fall Creek in Branson has had a name change to the Suites at Fall Creek. I'm pleased that I can see good availability for Santa Fe as that's one of the resorts that I consider within driving distance for us and possibly a 2009 vacation destination. The Arizona resorts also show good availability for Jan. and Feb despite what I consider a very short reservation window. I had to deposit and exchange my PT's unit early to get what I considered an acceptable Scottsdale, AZ unit for this coming January (deposited over 12 months out and reserved right at 12 months).

What do you mean? Can you search II?

When using my account, I log onto II using the account number provided to me by Sunterra. I can search and book if there is availability. I can place ongoing search request.

At this minute, I can see 2 pages of resorts from Vegas. There are thousands of weeks over everywhere in the world within the coming 2 months.

Too bad I have used all my points in 2007 and 2008. Even without points, I can browse for fun.

Europe is always strange. When you can't fnd anything online, call the operator and a week or 2 will surface.

Europe just doesn't 'work' yet on WebRes, always call for availability.

Normal Club Account would have a 'button' to press to exchange 2007 points, right now.

No button, just a link to I.I. to log in. When I go to the I.I. site it logs me in under the personal account and not the Snterra corporate account, thus I don't see anything remotely like Club Sun points. I only see the units that I own.

I'll give it some time and see what happens. I'll start looking for a "button" to pop up in the next few weeks. I know that in the past, when I've added a unit to my I.I. personal account, it woud take a little while for it to show up while awaiting confirmation of ownership from the resort.

It took about 2 more weeks to get my Sunterra II account after my Clubsun account was on-line. I finally called the ClubSun number & the rep got my II Sunterra account working. The delay is on the II side in assigning an account # for you. Once it is set you just log in & search all you want even if you don't actually have any points available. You can put in requests online but you can't change or cancel online.

Your Polo Towers will remain available in your individual account as well.

              Hope this helps!

That's pretty much what I had thought. I'm assuming the Club Sun account will be seperate from my personal account, much like HGVC's corporate account is seperate from my personal RCI account.

So, what you said above is not so. You aren't logging in to a Club Sunterra provided II account. Your private account will not merge and they don't know you've given your Polo to Sunterra, they think you could still deposit with them.

I must not have been clear. I have access to Club Sun Webres for internal exchanges but not to I.I. exchanges using Club Sun points. I'm logging into the Sunterra web page and accessing the Webres system. I can see my Club Sun points and make internal exchanges but, I can't see my Club Sun points with I.I. yet nor can I find a way to exchange with I.I. using my Club Sun points at this time.

What I'm most curious about is the difference in exchange power between Club Sun's corporate account and the Villa's unit I still have on deposit from my personal account. Eventually I'm sure Club Sun and I.I. will get on the same page and I'll be able to see how much more exchange power I have with Club Sun vs my personal account.

No you won't. Sunterra will provide you a membership number for II. In this account there is no 'power,' you know exactly what you can get based on the points you commit. The chart on Page10 of the SunOptions book tells you exactly what any exchange will cost between 1500 for a Studio of 'Select' quality in LOW season and 8000 for a 3BR of 'Premium' quality in HIGH season. Look at that chart and guess as to what resort may be what quality.... when you do get access to a Sunterra II acct all exchanges for your request will be listed with the amount of points required. Now you can 'compare' what the S.O. allotment for your Polo is and what that gets you but there's no magic 'power' associated with points, that's what points are all about.

                        Doug,
Your personal account will be totally seperate from your Sunterra account. One of my affiliated resorts allows me to decide each year whether to deposit with II or assign my use to ClubSun. I also have some other timeshares so I'm keeping my personal account.

When I check for availability with the two different accounts there is very little difference. But I was always pretty happy with my trading power before joining ClubSun. The advantage for me is a slightly lower exchange cost and the ability to place requests for any size unit I want regardless of the underlying size of the units I assigned to ClubSun. All that matters are the number of points I need for the exchange. So my studio units & my EOY units are now able to exchange for units of any size and are usable every year. You are also able to place requests without committing a specific unit. I like points for those reasons. ClubSun gave me a lot more flexability, at least I am hoping so, although the added yearly fees is the price paid for the flexability.

Though trade power is irrelevant, I usually pick Marriott, Sheraton and other brand names or those with 8.5 rating at Tug review.

Look for flexibility. If you can travel within 59 days, you have 50% off. Unless I am competiting for a bright red week, I wait till the bargain kicks in.

Perhaps trade power is the wrong term. What I'm looking for is what my Villa's unit will pull for exchanges with my personal account compared to what 6,500 points will pull with the corporate account. It's not quite apple's to apples but, I can't split my Villa's unit at this point in order to obtain two exchanges. I've seen posts that the corporate account could obtain exchanges that the owner could not have obtained if they only had a personal account. I just want to see if that's going to be the case with my Villa' unit, which has similar trade power to my suites unit (a little stronger pulling a few more resorts or larger units in some area's).

I agree points are more flexible and that's one of the attractions to joining Club Sun. When I went back and looked at the usage and exchanges I had made since first buying into Polo Towers I found there was quite a few points I would have left lying on the table. At the very least these points could have been used for other services or even gifted to friends or family.
