Finally got an answer from VI
Finally got an answer from VI
Dear Owner,
If you want to use only Sunterra options, either to book Sunterra Space or Vacation Internationale Space, You need to call Club Sunterra directly at (877)258-2786.
If you like to use VI points + Sunterra options you may call VI directly at (800)444-6633. The rules are the following:
a)Specify you are VI Owner and Sunterra member. Give both numbers to the agent taking your call, your Owner number and your Sunterra member number.
b)Specify you like to use both accounts. Remember, you need to use two nights minimum from both accounts. This means you need to book, at least, four night: two using VI points and two using Sun options.
c)If the space you are booking belongs to Club Sunterra, you will be given two reservation numbers: one for VI portion and one for Club Sunterra portion. If the space you are booking belongs to VI, only one reservation number will be given to you.
Thank you!

The significance of this is the difference in maintenance fees. An owner in both systems can use SunOptions for majority of a week or longer reservation. The MF of VI points is $6.59/pt which comes to 11¢/SunOption when you do the 60:1 conversion. The MF for Diamond Resorts U.S. Collection Members Association, Inc. is currently going to 8.03¢/SunOption and for those who own the right converted weeks the MF can be as low as 5¢/SunOption. So you're talking about access to VI's system for less than half the annual cost. Makes those 4BR penthouses in Mexico almost affordable.

I got it, so for instance a 2 bd unit at torres mazatlan
cost
18.5 per day prime so ... in VI points
18.5*7 (days)*60(sunoptions/vi conversion) = sun option equivalent = 7560 points
7560*.11 = approximate price VI
7560* (.11*2+.064*5)/7 = equal price when using 2 VI and 5 Diamond
(.064 is my rate in the club)
Difference = approximately $250
Ofcourse the longer you stay or larger the unit more benefit I suppose.
And if you are using the trust fee rate of .0803 the benefit goes to $160 for 7560 points. The interesting feature I noted about the VI website is they actually tell you how many units at a resort that they control/manage. Doesn't really tell you the inventory but it's better than nothing

Over time, Sunterra is becoming more and more interesting to me. This ability to use VI is a very nice bonus for me. And the Sunterra locations in Europe also is a big draw for me.
Does anyone know how difficult it is for a Sunterra member to access the VI inventory?
Does anyone know how difficult it is for a US Sunterra member to access the european Sunterra inventory?Bill

This thread was really about a VI owner who is also a member of THE Club. This can happen two ways. A VI owner whose VI ownership was sold to them as Sunterra Pacific or an owner who has independant memberships in both.
European inventory comes under the same Home Resort Advantage rules as the rest of the Club. Owners over there can book 12months in advance, US owners have to wait until 10months in advance. This makes prime time very hard to obtain, but other times are very possible if you plan at 10months.... not enough time for all the timeshares ®
