It never ceases to amaze me that the regular defenders of the practices of RCI will try to put lipstick on the pig anywhere, even trying to pull it into a discussion of Sunterra. Why don't they just join one of the more honest exchange companies out there like DAE, SFX, II, HTSE, etc. There are always choices in timeshare, and actually some quite good ones.
As to new Diamond Resorts / old Sunterra, the jury is still out. Cloobeck has made some good moves, like the settlement of the fraudulent misselling by his predecessors in Scotland, which I posted a comment on these boards praising him for. His phony baloney excuse for closing and selling off one of Sunterra Europe's crown jewels, Carlton Court, on the other hand, raises questions about whether he is playing straight with his members. I call 'em like I see 'em and I'm sorry if those who always prefer rose colored glasses don't like it.
If someone likes points and wants to trade to Europe, the choice, hands down, should be Hapimag.

My matter of fact style here is probably the reason that I was not the 'one' owner selected for the Trust BOD even though I can probably outvote any one owner except for Stephen Cloobeck. Maybe next year when I understand that DRI will vote/select another owner to the Board.... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Based on his postings, I believe that Steve has no experience with points systems.
OTOH - there are many of us who have owned - and continue to own - both points systems and weeks resorts. We are in a clear position to see the advantages and disadvantages. And we tell it as we see.
Yet despite having zero experience with points systems, Carolinian would have us believe that he is far more knowledgeable about the advantages and disadvantages of the systems.

And when some of us with direct experience report on our experiences that disagree with Steve's second- and third-hand presumptions, we are the ones who are biased and oblivious.
Utterly fascinating.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”

Carolinian,
I have to ask this.
When did DRI whiz in your cornflakes?
I've been dealing with DRI since 1998 and don't have as harsh a stance against them as you seem to have. This despite the fact I've had issues with them and have been skeptical of their motives, even after the merger.
Having an opinion is fine but you sure seem to have a vendeta against DRI despite the fact you apparently don't/haven't owned anything with them and have no direct experience with them. Sounds as if you've been sucked in by a very vocal minority and you want to believe only the negative and nothing that's balanced. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/
