SunOptions are gone, it's just Points in THE Club.
FeeOptions have been devalued again, doubly. You only get 5¢/point when you trade in your points for Maintenance Fees or Club Dues, down from 5.85¢/point last year and ~7¢/point prior to that. In the same time span the Trust MF has risen form 6.5¢ to 7.3¢ to the current 8.03¢/pt.
...and there is a minimal $42 processing fee per transaction for Non-Elite Club members; $32 for Elite Silver; $22 for Elite Gold. Platinum Elite members receive FREE processing for their exchange. Or, save $5 off the processing fee by booking online in the Members Area.
It's amazing how much DRI is trying to extract fees from members. We have 11,500 points. Last year, I went to the sales presentation, just to get the $100 gift card and find out if there were any updates since the DRI take-over from Sunterra. The saleswoman was very pushy, insisting we needed to buy more points to get the the Elite level. When I explained that we don't use all our points every year, she gave us the spiel about using them to cover MF. She then relented when I insisted that was not a cost-effective way to use the points. I would rather give give my extra points to friends than use them to cover MF -and then have to pay an extra charge for that so-called priveledge. Sounds like DRI is taking tips from the airline industry. Maybe we are soon going to be charged if we want clean towels and bedding!!!!
I am an owner at the Polo Towers and I spoke with a representative from Diamond Resorts a few nights about converting to the points system. The sales guy wasn’t to pushy but I didn’t like the idea of forking over $3k to switch. My question is it worth paying the money to switch over? I currently use II to exchange my week at the Polo Towers and I’ve been happy with them so far. Thanks for any input.

It can go both ways.
Two considerations include:
1) how do u vacation (week at a time? 3 days here, 5 days there, etc).
2) where do you like to go? (are most/all locations covered in the "Trust" of 19 resorts?)
So, they are still offering a switch at $3000? Is this for the membership into the Hawaiian Trust? How many annual Club pts are they offering for your (how big unit?) ? Are they requiring you buy more points?

$2995 has been the advertised cost to join Club since day One back in 1998. It's all 'waived' if you buy retail. As a Founding Member I got a 1K discount and in the intervening years of the old company I saw conversions for as little as $1164. These days the $2995 offer like Polo owners are getting right now are few and far between. Yes, 3K is still the fee for joining but depending on what you own and want to convert, you may or may not get that offer, time of month might matter, too.

Typically we vacation twice a year. In the past I would exchange my week with Polo with II and receive my week with another resort and a certificate.
The offer was for $2995 and I would receive 10000 points a year.
I have had great benefit using their points system.
I'm able to take what is considered a weeks worth of points and stretch that into 12, 15 or more days.
Diamond carried over Sunterra's 59 day policy that allows one to book at 59 days or closer to the start date usually at discounts.
Also bypassing Friday and Saturday nights essentially doubles days at many resorts. (I learned this with DVC and use it with Sunterra/Diamond often)
(Friday and Saturday nights count as 25% of a week each, where Mon thru Thurs nights are just 10% of a weeks value per night)
For $3000 it's a good deal! IMHO that is.
Actually there is a 'nightly' premium in DRI. Where weeknights cost 10% of a weekly rate and Friday and Saturday nights EACH cost 30% of the weekly rate. So, if you book a non-standard week, say, Wed-Wed you end up paying a nightly rate that results in a 110% cost.
