  • II Sunoptions Chart

I hate to think that, after all these years in timesharing, I can't figure this out, but---
In the new II Directory page 11 has a chart showing how many Sunoptions would be needed to trade into resorts of various catagories. As the numbers don't match the value of our Sunoptions based on the units we own, I assume this chart is strictly for II use. Thing is---I don't see anything that tells us which resorts are "select", "moderate" or "premium". The designation also don't seem to match up to the verbiage used in II's new resort ratings which are due to come in the new year. Do we find out the catagories resort-by-resort when we try and exchange, or will this somehow work with their new designations? I hate surprises (though I should be used to them after more than 20 years owning timeshares).

Select/Moderate/Premium are the categories that have been used ever since Club Sunterra started trading in II, after the Chap7 in 02/03 time frame. There has never been a direct correlation between those categories and the rating of II resort. You can generally guess but the online search tells you exactly what's needed for what's in the bank and I'm sure the CSR at THE Club could tell you what the price is for any ongoing search.

I've found that pretty much anything that's in red season will run the maximum number of points to reserve unless you're within the Flexchange period. When we first joined I quickly searched some of the lessor resorts we've stayed at over the years. Even the non-five star resorts were considered "premium" resorts.

IMO, DRI's designations have almost no meaning at all. Every resort I've pulled up with an online search has required the premium number of points to reserve that unit in it's red season.

I have not looked at any resorts for the off seasons of yellow and/or green. Perhaps that's where the point totals would differ but, that really doesn't go along with DRI's description of select, moderate or premium.

I've not found this to be the case, I've reserved many resorts in prime season like just this past week over Christmas. It must have been a Moderate resort as the bill was 3000 points not 3500.

          I have the same results.

I guess I'm just looking at the wrong resorts. The two I can remember are one I own in Branson called Grand Regency. It's not a five star resort, there is no club house, there are no amenities and there are only two buildings yet when I looked at it on I.I. it was going to cost me premium points.

Same with The Ridge Crest in Lake Tahoe. Not a five star resort, very few amenities onsite and no club house.

I would have thought anything not five star would have fit the moderate catagory rather then requiring premium points. I know if I'm going to pay premium points I would want a premium resort. Every resort I looked up that wasn't five star required premium points if it was a red season week. After looking at maybe a dozen resorts I gave up and just assumed that almost all resorts in red season were going to cost premium points. I know if the two I mentioned above require premium points I'm not all that thrilled about a resort that would be considered moderate.

I am currently also a Marriott owner. I have an II directory w/ the Marriott logo in front. Is there a separate II directory for Sunterra/DRI members with the Sunterra/DRI logo on front?

If you are a Marriott owner and trade through II, you have a personal II account. If you are also a member of THE Club, you have a 'corporate' II account included in your membership. If you want an II directory/catalog for that membership you must request it from THE Club. The most recent one I received came a couple/few months ago and still has the Club Sunterra logo Special Edition Exclusively For Club Sunterra Members. Many pages are labeled 'A special guide for Club Sunterra members,' but only 9-12 are special with pg11 having the same conversion chart as pg10 of the SunOptions Directory.

I see. I have had troubles with DRI/sunterra setting up my II corporate acct. They now say give it one more week (1st week of Jan). I guess once DRI sets up my II acct, then I can request a catalog.

I own both Marriott and DRI. I am a member of THE Club. I received two I.I. directories without requesting either including the DRI THE Club directory.

The only difference I've noticed is what is printed in the front, Marriott for one and DRI for the other.

Doug. I completed by Polo-to-Club conversion a few weeks before you did. When did you get your Club-II corp membership # assigned? There is some hang up with mine : ( . My 2008 MF has been paid and my Club 2008 membership has been paid as well.

Maybe 6 to 8 weeks after paying for the conversion.

That's what my mom always told me.

For that matter, last year I received two Marriott I.I. books. So far this year I've only received one Marriott book and one DRI book.

Those old hands at RCI know about VEP, Vacation Experience Profile, or something like that. RCI won't let you see stuff with VEPs way off from the resort your account is based on.

Turns out that THE Club and II do a similar thing. Although as discussed above, we're not sure what resort qualifies as what category until you compare the point values. The news is that online with II, THE Club members are not offered 'Select' resorts. To get them, whichever ones they are, you have to call THE Club where they will tell you that a Select resort may not be up to THE Club standards and will then book for you.
