St. Maartin Question

I'm traveling to St. Maartin in early June and currently I'm booked from June 2 to June 11 at Flamingo beach villas in a 1 bedroom. I know that there are 3 resorts by name in St. Maartin although I'm unsure of the real difference between Flamingo beach and Flamingo beach villas. Has anyone stayed at one or more of these resorts recently, I'm traveling with just my wife it is a late honeymoon of sorts. We would like an ocean front room but I believe all flamingo beach villa's units are further away from the ocean.

Your first Lesson is that the island is split between the Dutch and the French, The side you'll be flying into and staying on is St Maarten, the other side with the scenic beaches is St Martin.

I've been there recently. The Flamingo Beach Resort building is on the beach although some Studio units are Garden View and Pool View. There are Studios that are Ocean View and all FBR 1BRs are Ocean View. FBV is right there, too, in three buildings, one on the beach and two further up the hill. You should cal THE Club and put a note on your reservation requesting the Ocean Front building and 10days before arrival I would email and or call

IIRC, one bedroom units at the Flamingo Beach Villas are can be in one of the waterfront FBV buildings or in one of the buildings up the hill. If it's in a building up the hill the one-bedroom would be a lockoff from a 2-bedroom unit.

If you are up the hill you want an upper floor unit. Also, if you are up the hill avoid units that are on the end of the building - the balcony for many of the end units does not face the ocean, and if it's a lower level unit there is no balcony - just a ground level patio right next to the sidewalk with zero privacy.

St. Maarten

We stayed at the Flamingo Beach in May. We had a studio, but it was much larger than some sunterra 1-brs we've stayed in (such as Royal Kuhio or San Luis Bay). As I recall we were on the 4th floor and good views, a huge patio with view, and the best views can be had on floors 3, 4, and 5, and are elevator accessible. However, not all rooms have Ocean View. We didn't see the 1-br. The resort has a very nice private, clean, and tranquil swimming beach and there's bar/food service to the beach there served by the resort's pool bar. There is also a nice salon on property right next to the beach. You can walk to the next resort via beach to catch the 1 day or 1/2 day snorkling/scuba excursions. I also dealt with Bridgett when we extended our booking in person and she is very kind and helpful. Car rentals are very inexpensive, under $20, and if you do go to the French St. Martin, look into the Zip-lining. It's off the beaten track. And congratulations!
