Does anyone have the correspondence re the 2008 MF's? My bill got tossed, there's a 60 minute wait on the phone, and I can't log in online. I'm looking for the amount for the 1 bedroom at VPT, it was $557 last year.

I guess that was one good thing about putting our units into THE Club. We were able to pay the MF's on our Suites and Villas units online through the DRI web site with very little problem.

OT, but Doug, can you tell me if you've found any other advantages to VPT's association with DRI? I am about to list my week for sale (along with at least one other ), but want to know what I'm giving up before I do. Thanks.

It seems to me that exchanging points through I.I. is easier than exchanging week for week. It's a very good deal if I can travel last minute and use the flexchange period of 59 days or less as the required points for a unit/week are 50% off.

THE Club membership fee's include a corporate membership to I.I. I personally haven't seen any more exchange power through this corporate account when searching online but almost everyone else swears that there is.

The Villas at Polo Towers units have a reasonably high THE Club point value. Exchanging your unit within the DRI resorts will get you just about anything they offer (space available basis of course) and still have points left over. Those points can be carried forward to the next year for use or used to pay for other services and/or offset a portion of your MF's (5 cents per point). While not considered the best deal it's still and option Polo Towers owners didn't have before.

Exchanges within the system (internal exchanges) incure no exchange fee.

If all you own are DRI resorts then you don't need a personal account with I.I. (their corporate account is included in THE Club's yearly membership fee).

You could use your points to reserve a Suites week rather than a Villa's week if traveling Fri - Fri no longer works for you and still have points left over (Suites weeks require fewer points than Villa's weeks). This would give you the choice of a Fri, Sat, or Sunday check in date at Polo Towers.

I'm probably missing a couple of options but this are the main things that come to mind for me.

For us it became a no-brainer. We had two weeks that totaled 26,500 points. Both weeks had become strictly exchange weeks for us. They allowed us to convert both weeks for $2,995. Exchanging points within I.I. was more efficient than exchaning week for week. We gained options to use points that could offset travel expenses of MF's and we gained access to a reasonalby large mini-system with destinations I could be happy with. This helps in case the week for week based exchange system I.I. uses goes south like what RCI's weeks based program seems to have done.

Part of what I did was look at our actual usage over the years of our Polo Towers units. I the took a look at how many club points would have been required to accomplish the same things. In the end, since 1999 we would have left 39,500 poijnts on the table. That would have been enough to pay for 4 AA RT flight certificates, a two bedroom exchange through I.I. and still have 3,000 points left over. Those 3,000 points could have bought a 1 bedroom exchange through I.I. during the flexchange period or been used for nightly rental through THE Club. To me that was a lot of money left on the table so, we made the change.

Keep in mind that there were times we made personal usage of our units. If all we had done was exchange our units from the begging, we probably would have left even more money lying on the table.

THANK YOU for your thorough response. Of course it's killing me, because just as I've prepared myself to give up the week, it's now so tempting to keep it to get into DRI. Although one reason I need to get rid of some weeks is my inability to plan so far ahead for the next few years, the 60 day window doesn't work that well, either. Sigh.

Doug - great info! Sounds lke a very nice mini-system which is the way I think a LOT of TS are going and is not a bad thing.

The thing I like is being able use the timeshare as little two days at time to as long as you have points. Like my sister was driving to the east coast and stopped it Sendona Summit for a day and it only cost 250 points for two days but only stayed one because it cost so little points and got this 3 weeks before she left. I am person that can not plan to far ahead but I use the timeshare for as many 3 day weekends as I can. If you like Maui ,HI and Kauai, HI both islands have very large resorts that belong to Club so it can be easer to get to Hawaii which is impotent for me when I find very few on II.

But do what you have to do.

I had forgotten about that. I haven't taken the time to look and see if Polo Towers will be one of the resorts where you can book as few as two nights. Since they had the split week option to begin with I always sort of assumed they would allow individual nights (as few as two) to be used.

Since we have Allegiant Airlines in town this might work out for us when they offer a fare sale. It could be a nice little long weekend getaway to someplace other than Branson, MO.

There is always Desert Paradise in Las Vegas and they have a lot of rooms to use most of the year, maybe not as nice as Polo Towers.

I wished DRI had more resorts in HI that actually had decent availability to members 6-10 months out. maybe I have not looked hard enough, but I have not seen available Oahu units yet

The only thing with Oahu is I think that Club only has part of a resort or it is a very small resort. KBC and PPP are very large resorts and Club have all the rooms. KBC is my home resort but I have been able PPP any time that I have wanted to 10 months out. KBC is your home resort you can get a 2 bd any other person will have to wait for a cancellation if your lucky there are very few of them.
