Is there anything specific I should know about renting a timeshare unit reserved with points in The DRI Club?....I mean something that doesn't apply to other timeshares?

    TIA

Let me ask a general question, not being sarcastic, but what do you know about renting a timeshare? That would give the DRI owners a place to start.

General renting, I have some ideas. DRI-don't know, not an owner. I own Bluegreen points and rent weeks from those points.

Or visa versa, I put it in their name.

Don - To answer your question...not a lot :-). Other than the wisdom I've gleaned from this board, of course.
I've just posted my first rental on redweek (and will post it here as well). I don't plan to use the escrow company. I will request payment through Paypal. I had planned to notify DRI of the reservation name change at the point I had a renter. I guess I was making sure there wasn't some sort of hidden DRI hoop/loophole/major barrier that I might crash into.

Do you have a lease? I got mine on myresortnetwork.com and modified it with my name and other info including the Paypal information. I prefer cashier's check as the handling costs are much less.

To those interested in the rental and wanting more information, I provide a datasheet with information from the resort website. That gives them info about parking, the room and the resort, and what they are getting for their money.

On the lease, I specify the week, check in and out time, full resort address and phone number, etc, etc, etc. I then fax or email the lease to the tenant. I get them to sign, and send the lease back to me with the cashier’s check or have them make the Paypal payment . When I have that payment, I change the reservation to the tenant’s name and sign the lease to show it is completed. The tenants should give the resort a call a few days after receiving the lease. That will verify the lease is complete and the reservation has been changed.

Not a legal opinion, just is the way I have handled the last four or five rentals.

Thanks Don for the information on how you've handled successful rentals. Now I just need a renter.
