  • Caution - Double Check Rates

I have noticed recently when making reservations for periods outside a normal week that the web/res system is often quoting erroenous rates. For example April 17-20 Studio at the Ridge on Sedona for 3150 when it should be 1575.

I have seen several instances of this on different searches at different locations.

I don't have the rules memorized and sometimes there are specials that affect rates but I thought it went to half price for weeks at 60days out and half price for nightly at 30days out. That's not to say that I haven't seen funny things online and from the CSR.

There have been some changes to the web recently, it shows the discounted rates in RED with the regular rate crossed out. You can now enter start date and number of nights instead of start and stop dates.

Seems to be working a little faster, too.

Spence, you are correct insofar as I understand the rules.

In the example I used the Studio is quoted at 6300 points on sale for 3150. When I apply the rules 3150 is the appropriate rate before any discount. I have no idea where the 6300 comes from unless they doubled the 3150 when they intended to halve it. Interestingly the 30 day rule does not seem to be in force in Sedona at the moment and a studio at the Summit can be had for 1575 for the same days.

I also noted the system improvements in both speed and functionality.

Yes, the website improved a little bit yesterday. It's faster.

I've seen problems with the rates as well. The monthly specials that come out seem to be ignored. Currently the Sedona Summit is suppose to be 75% off for the month of March, but it was only calculating as 50% off. I had to call and make my reservation over the phone for the correct point value.

I had to do the same thing with a reservation at Desert Paradise Resort in Las Vegas in May. According to the monthly specials it's suppose to be 50% off April - May, but when I tried to book a May date it was only showing the full value, when I called I was able to book the reservation over the phone for the correct value.

The problem with this is that they do not give you the discounted reservation protection when you book over the phone. I wasn't going to pay the ridiculous price for RPP anyway, but just made me angry when they wouldn't allow me to have the discounted internet rate when I booked over the phone when it was their fault the internet wasn't calculating the right point value for the reservation.

Monthly specials? Where do I find the information? On Diamond's site? I can't recall receiving any email notification of specials for a few months.

I got the February specials emailed to me on Feb 16th. The strange thing is that it comes to my email address that is not the email address Sunterra (I mean DRI - still getting used to that) normally uses. When I make my reservations etc. I use one email address, and I used to get the monthly specials sent to that email address. Now I no longer get the monthly specials at that email address but instead another email address that I have that I don't know when I gave it to Sunterra. If you don't get the specials emailed to you, I would definately call them directly and ask them to make sure you start getting them. The specials are my favorite thing about being a club member. Just book 2 nights in Sedona Summit for 75% off!
